Fandom Hybrid Podcast

#adiscoveryofwitches #adow In this episode, we discuss S3E4 of "A Discovery of Witches". Miriam takes a trip to New Orleans to give Matthew some news about their research. Phoebe finds a huge clue into the whereabouts of the third page. Gallowglass makes a huge confession. Matthew arrives back in England just in time to welcome the twins into the world.

#thewalkingdeaduniverse #twdworldbeyond #twd In this episode, Hanako and Kacey talk about the end of the limited series, The Walking Dead: World Beyond. Due to some technical difficulties (I accidentally erased our discussion of S2E3 - ouch) and real life, we decided to just wrap up the show as a whole and talk about what the ending of the series (and that post-credit scene - YIKES!!!) could mean for the larger TWD world in general. We both suspect that this will not be the last we see of the Foundlings and the CRM.

With the main show coming back (in two weeks!!!), you may be a little foggy on what happened in Season 11A (the first eight episodes of the final season). Click here to check out all of our episodes about The Walking Dead universe, and check in with us on February 20 when the show returns for Season 11B.

#smokinaces Continuing to work through a backlog of fun episodes, we finally get around to posting Hanako's birthday episode from last year. Smokin' Aces is a 2006 film that tells the story of a Las Vegas entertainer-turned-mafia crime boss wannabe-turned FBI information, Buddy Israel, and the many people who are trying to kill him to collect a hefty bounty. The movie is as funny as it is bloody and has one of the best ensemble casts playing some of the best characters ever (Jeremy Piven, Ryan Reynolds, Ray Liotta, Andy Garcia, Ben Affleck, Chris Pine, Taraji P. Henson, Common, Alicia Keys - seriously, it's a great cast). Go check it out!

This episode was originally recorded on November 17, 2021.

#adiscoveryofwitches #ADOW In this episode of A Discovery of Witches, Marcus appeals to his New Orleans family in regard to the new scion, but is met with resistance at every turn. Matthew's plan to keep Jack's presence quiet fails as Ransome - the current leader of the New Orleans family - makes an introduction. Matthew places himself in harm's way in order to show the New Orleans vampires that he is a changed man.

Meanwhile, back in England, Diana tracks down the second missing page, while Phoebe gains on the locations of the third. Sarah feels alone and helpless but is talked out of returning home by Fernando and Gallowglass. Gerbert begins to put a plan in motion, and Benjamin reaches out to Satu to work together.

#adiscoveryofwitches #adow The crew discusses the second episode of A Discovery of Witches, Season 3. The reappearance of Father Hubbard reveals some long-kept secrets and brings about an unexpected reunion for Matthew and Diana. The identity of the blood-raged vampire is revealed, which causes complications and lines drawn between the de Clermont brothers. Diana and Satu both exhibit strengthened power and resolve when they are challenged. Gerbert forms an unlikely alliance. Matthew considers Marcus' plea for a scion, but must first answer for his past in order to move forward.

Editors Note: I misspoke two names during the discussion - the actor who portray Baldwin in S1 and S2 is Trystan Gravelle, not Graham, and the sequel to the original trilogy (the book that starts Marcus and Phoebe's story) is Time's Convert, not Convent. I apologize for the errors. ~ Hanako

#thewalkingdead #twdworldbeyond We're finally getting around to editing/posting some of our backlogged episodes from 2021 and since we got a new trailer today for The Walking Dead S11B, it felt like a good time to an episode from The Walking Dead: World Beyond. Hanako and Kacey discuss the second episode of the final season, and give some theories as to what might happen. (This episode was recorded on 11/15/21, and it's interesting to see how much we got right - and not right).

#adiscoveryofwitches #adow Our favorite show is back!!! A Discovery of Witches returns for its third and final season. Matthew and Diana return to the present day, just to witness an immeasurable loss. Their return brings about some familiar faces from the past. Peter Knox contends with the Congregation for his actions. Baldwin makes his position clear as head of the de Clermont family. Diana reaches out to an old friend for assistance.

#harrypotter In our first recorded episode of 2022, Hanako, Anthony, and Mike discuss all things Harry Potter. We talk about the recently released special "Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts", and talk about how we got into the fandom, our likes and dislikes about the reunion special and the series/films, and the impact the series has had on our geeky lives.

On this New Year’s Eve episode, Hanako and Lorrie get caught up and just shoot the breeze for a few minutes to ring in the New Year. They talk about Lorrie’s reaction to the final two episodes of Hawkeye, and discuss a little bit about how the pandemic has tried their patience (Hanako is currently on Covid-watch while waiting for test results after a possible exposure). Also discussed is the anticipation for the final season of A Discovery of Witches (which is due to premiere January 7), and the lack of (or lack of their knowledge of) POC-based groups and fans of fantasy-based shows/books that are usually discussed on the show, such as ADOW, Cursed, Shadow & Bone, etc. The episode cuts as 2022 rings in on the East Coast. Happy New Year!
