Louis' soulmark says "Will You Marry Me?". In all scenarios where Louie has imagined hearing those words, he never could have dreamed it would go like this.

Four times Louis' art hurts Harry's feelings, and one time it doesn't.

It's 1995 and a chat room is the last place Harry ever expects to find the love of his life.

Harry shakes his head to himself and gets situated with his laptop on the table and a sip of his drink. Ah, that’s better. That is, until he opens his laptop. “Dammit Niall,” Harry curses under his breath. There’s a travel website open that he certainly did not open himself. Niall has been trying to get him to Paris ever since he got his mark. There’s not any particular reason why he hasn’t gone, it just never felt like the right time. But he is 26 and maybe Niall is on to something. He starts checking fares and calculating in his head if he can afford it. A new environment might help him with inspiration for his novel as well. Looks like he’s finally going to Paris.

There’s this bar. It’s large and crowded and dark, music loud enough that the bass reverberates through the bodies on the dance floor, loud enough that it’s hard to make conversation.

There’s this boy. Who moves through the crowd with ease, who always seems to wear a smile and who Zayn feels drawn to even when he’s never exchanged words with him. He’s wanted to, once or twice, but by the time he’d worked up the courage (or found it at the bottom of a few shot glasses) he’d never been able to find him in the swarm of people dancing.

There’s this bar and there’s this boy and there’s Zayn, on the sidelines, sipping from a beer and wondering if tonight’s the night he’ll finally gather the courage to speak to him before he loses sight of him.

“You look different when you’re not covered in come,” he blurts out, immediately regretting each and every life choice that has led to this exact moment. Elevator Guy is going to hate him.

Louis has ridden the elevator with his neighbor all week. The first time they speak, there’s a misunderstanding.

“Alright, here’s one,” says the interviewer - Louis’ forgotten her name already, but she leans forward like she’s about to say something daring, and he automatically braces himself. “Who’s the best kisser?”

Christ, thinks Louis, fixing the smile on his face.
