They strike at any hour and you would never expect them. Words roll off their tongue like okra. And we all have an idea of whom they are.. it’s the Yoruba Demons, and they’re not the only demons we know. They’re in the workplace. They’re our friends (or so we think), and everywhere you can imagine , even your imagination.

With the embrace of Nigerian cultures growing rapidly in America with the assistance of world’s technological advances, music and social media, the acceptance of popular culture can be seen as following the latest trend of naija aesthetics.

Remember the famous question, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” Well, we are grown now and we are not what we said we wanted to be. We are dreaming bigger, and strutting down paths we never thought of in our youth. Although our career plans have changed, God’s plan has proven to be better.

Our given name was not of our choice, but it is our truth. As time goes by and we celebrate the new years we get to be in the world, we gain full control of our lives to create the person we want to be, from our personalities to careers. Although we may not have chosen our names, we define it, learn to own it, and love it as it was given to us.

As new additions were conceived into our family, parenting styles changed and with it came leniency to the childhood desires we craved. Although it was too late for us to create memories with our peers, we have the best friendships we can ask for with our siblings and cousins. During our teenage years and now being young adults, topics that we were afraid to discuss were no longer taboo. So when our childhood came to an end, so did the rules we were forced to abide too.

The first examples of relationships we got to closely observe are those our Nigerian parents had. These unions influenced our decisions of what an ideal marriage should be, our view on pregnancy before marriage, abortions, serial dating, and identity. We touch on several different topics in this episode. So Jurors, make sure you have your favorite snack & drink and let’s discuss it with FANG!

A great majority of us born in America all share the story of our parents migrating to the USA to give themselves and their children a better life. Now our time is here to do almost the same and we are not prepared. Taxes are still complicated to comprehend, starting a career is still in its beginning stages, and we can not afford the lifestyles we want. First, we can start with investing into our greatest capital, SELF!

After nine months of planning, organizing, and completing all requirements, we bring to you our baby, F.A.N.G. ! We reunite after almost 5 years apart to create a show to tell you about our lives as First American Nigerian Generation in our families. It has not been a smooth road since college, but before we go in depth, here’s a few things to know about us, Rebecca and Mukrimat, with a pinch of personality.

FANG, created by cousins Rebecca & Mukrimat, stands for “First American-Nigerian Generation”.

FANG is all about our lives as women who grew up on traditional Nigerian values in Brooklyn, NY. We accomplished the dream our parents had for us -- a college degree to live a better life than them. But what’s next?

With everything that has happened after graduation, it gave us the chance to really sit, be still and think -- what do we want to come from our lives?

We always hear do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life. And chileeee, we don’t want to work!

Tune in on Monday March 28, 2022 for debut of The FANG Podcast. You can also match our voices to our beautiful faces by catching our episodes on YouTube, The FANG Podcast.

And follow us! We’re on Instagram & TikTok @thefangpodcast. We post any and all updates & important information! And remember… we air all new episodes on Mondays & we can’t wait for ya to see what we have planned!
