Fantasy Benchwarmers

We start this episode off with some "making the fantasy playoff" stories and how matchups at this point matter a lot. Then we look at some of the problematic players who probably will be easier to drop at this point.

The biggest blow today is the injury on Lamelo Ball - fractured ankle. This probably makes him done for the season (just announced now that he is done). It has been a disappointing year for Lamelo owners as he has only played 36 games this season. If you have Lamelo and your team is in the playoffs, we had some tips on how to survive this loss from your first round pick.

Meanwhile, Lebron James, who also heard something pop the other day, has not been ruled out for the rest of the season. But things are not looking good as well (as I was writing this, he's been given a 2-3 week timeline). Is this the end of road at least for this season for Lebron?

A gamechanger this season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will miss another game, which puts some "load management" concerns on a lot of fantasy managers' mind. Is he being load managed now? How much can he still help the rest of the season?

With Kawhi Leonard playing 46 and 38 minutes in the past two overtime games, is "load management" a thing of the past for Kawhi? He has been top 15 the past month and is currently top 1 the past couple of weeks. This gamble is definitely paying off for his managers.

We debate on who will be picked first next season - Steph Curry, Damian Lillard or Shai-Gilgeous Alexander? Plus some fantasy playoff tips!

Detroit's trade deadline acquisition James Wiseman has now become a thorn on the side of rookie Jalen Duren. This leaves us wondering if both or any of these guys are going to be worth holding onto as the fantasy playoffs begin as early as next week. We haven't even included the return of Marvin Bagley, who adds another wrinkle in this already annoying scenario for fantasy owners of Duren.

Damian Lillard took a very unexpected rest. Is it already that time of the season? Has silly season fantasy already begun? At week 18?! Well, we hope not, but there will be a bunch of players worth monitoring moving forward.

Our leagues are approaching the fantasy trade deadline and we had a trade under review as we recorded our quickie. So we thought of discussing this trade as it was probably one of the tougher ones to decide on this season.

Then we looked into the season of Lamelo Ball, who after having a frustrating start due to injuries has now racked up some really impressive stat lines and has quietly been top 50 the past month. We pit him against early season favorite Tyrese Halliburton, who on the flip side has seemed to struggle since his knee and elbow injuries. Who do you like for the rest of the season between these two?

We take a look at the debut of Matisse Thybulle and Josh Hart with their new teams. Will their value increase as they step into new/expanded roles? We also had a lengthy discussion about trading a couple of weeks before the playoffs. Should teams who are out of contention still be allowed to trade (even if player values are fair enough)?

Man oh man! What a day and it wasn't even the trade deadline! Four very fantasy relevant trades today but I guess none bigger than that Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns deal. From a basketball standpoint, KD joining Devin Booker, Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton is huge! But from the fantasy basketball point of view, it is Mikal Bridges who could make that big jump from being number 3 to maybe number 1 in Brooklyn.

Los Angeles Lakers finally found a Russell Westbrook trade partner ending the team's 2 year nightmare. Of course we discuss our thoughts on these trades plus a few smaller trades in this quickie!
