We report from FanX 2018, the Salt Lake City Comic Convention. That is, we share our experiences across all three days of the convention.

To begin with, Brandi hunts for autographs. She collects signatures from the DC television universe. For instance, she meets John Wesley Shipp twice. Also, we meet the Legends of Tomorrow, Brandon Routh and Caity Lotz. Furthermore, Brandi unexpectedly meets another hero, Erin Gray from Buck Rogers and Silver Spoons. Additionally, we get photos signed by Michael Rooker, Brent Spiner and David Tennant.

Furthermore, we attend the panels of Michael Rooker, Brandon Routh and Caity Lotz as well as the Rocky Mountain Droid Builders panel. Also, we catch the last half of Brent Spiner’s panel.

The Dark Corner hits the venders, picking up a set of dice trays from the Die Hard booth. Brandi buys a lightsaber of many colors. Also, Dave buys a commemorative T-Shirt while Brandi adopts a stuffed, feline Captain America. Furthermore, we leave the convention with a number of pillows by Fandom Fads. Brandi also finds a leather bound book suited to her Dungeons & Dragons character.

Cosplay is the common thread across all three days. We discuss a few choice cosplayers we happen to see on the convention floor. On day 2, Brandi dresses as Jessica Jones and gets the nod from the man who played Killgrave. Finally, we attend the cosplay competition on the final day. Also, a dance party breaks out.

However, this year at FanX 2018, photo ops disappointed. From the holding pen to waiting in line, from having the photo taken to getting the photo and a digital print, the photo ops showed mismanagement and a lack of communication. Many missed the opportunity to get a photo op, while the convention left people requiring assistance in the lurch. Meanwhile, the response from the convention varied from insensitive to unsatisfactory. For the first time, they valued the number of photo ops sold more than the quality of experience provided for fans.
