      • Ancestor Shrine: I tend to use altar and shrine interchangeably, and while they aren’t exactly the same, for me it’s close enough.

      Growing up in El Paso, Ofrendas were a thing, and part of daily life both around 11/2 and all year around

      I've been super blessed with many teachers, and those who taught me the most about ancestor work have been

      • Elena Avila, Woman Who Glows in the Dark, a curandera from my hometown.
      • My Dutch grandmother Annekae, a professional wise woman.
      • Afua Hassan,
      • And FF (in the Ifa tradition.)


        • I have a couple of altars in my spaces, in my workspace I have invited my grandmother to be with me and guide me. I also realized I had a low-key altar to Afua, and I wanted to snaz it up.

        • A song that inspired me to dive deeper into understanding domestic violence and my privilege, and somehow connected me to Afua, and wanting to show up for pregnant people who may be low-resourced and in harm's way.
        • A birth revolution and body autonomy are how I choose to represent, with Mama Afua on my mind.
