𝗝𝗲𝗮𝗻-𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗻: Airline Pilot, Air France and Author of the Book "Flying against the Odds". In 2003, Jean-Jacques Trochon was diagnosed with aggressive kidney cancer and subsequently underwent the removal of his left kidney. Working hard at his recovery, he returned to the cockpit after just 4.5 months. Nine years later, the emerge of multiple metastases in both lungs, required three major surgeries. Despite being given a slim chance of survival, he again returned to work in 2016 and now captains the world's largest commercial aircraft, the Airbus 380. His secret to good health? In addition to his positive mental attitude, he has spent 14 years researching cancer treatments and now incorporates natural ant-angiogenesis, ketogenesis, fasting, and the use of phycocyanin into his daily regime.

During the Buchinger Wilhelmi Mindfulness Meditation Week, Lharampa Tenzin Kalden was teaching classes like Gentle Tibetan Lu Jong Yoga and Meditation, Mindfulness and Metta Meditation, and held lectures in the clinic at Lake Constance.

Dr Francoise Wilhelmi de Toledo, the scientific director of the Buchinger Wilhelmi clinics, had the chance to interview Lharampa Tenzin Kalden about Fasting, Buddhism, and Meditation.

Lharampa Tenzin Kalden is a Buddhist monk and meditation instructor who teaches traditional mindfulness meditation methods and Tibetan Lu Jong yoga. Born in Tibet and raised in Europe, he studied at the Sera Monastic University inSouth India for 17 years, where he graduated in the five great sciences of Buddhism. He was awarded the title of Rabjampa and achieved the highest scholastic level of Lharampa. For the last nine years, Lharampa Tenzin Kalden has organized training courses in Buddhist philosophy and meditation retreats in Europe. He teaches and practices Lu Jong and Tsa Lung Yoga, which he learned in India from Tulku Lama.

In this episode of our Podcast, Dr Françoise Wilhelmi de Toledo speaks about the world's largest scientific study on the effects of Buchinger therapeutic fasting carried out at the fasting clinic Buchinger Wilhelmi.

The study has been published in 2019. It was conducted by a team led by Dr Françoise Wilhelmi de Toledo in cooperation with Prof. Andreas Michalsen from Charité University Hospital in Berlin.

The study collected and evaluated data from 1,422 subjects (41 % male, 59 % female), who completed the Buchinger Wilhelmi fasting programme over a period of 5, 10, 15 or 20 days in 2016. Under the title “Safety, health improvement and well-being during a 4 to 21-day fasting period in an observational study including 1422 subjects”, the study shows that Buchinger therapeutic fasting is safe and therapeutically effective. It also promotes emotional and physical well-being.

The results of the study were published online on January 2, 2019 in the peer-reviewed journal PLOS ONE.
