The 2019 Pie Ride happened the Sunday before Thanksgiving and gave Sven a chance to ride with a group, and go to places, that we don’t see all that often. Super fun! Join in next year and you will have fun too!

Another Single Speed USA is in the books.  Austin did it right. There are many moving pieces to the festivities that encompass this event.  Halloween rides downtown Austin on Thursday night. I missed it because I was marking the course, but it looked and sounded that everyone who attended had a great time.  The Greenway ride in Austin on Friday, the registration happy hour at Chumba bikes on Friday afternoon, the Meet and Greet at the campground Friday night, and it all gets a little fuzzy after that.

The Venue was great.  The bar was great. The participants were great.  The whole weekend was great.

Fat-Bike Race season has begun and the Danger Gnome Podcast took a field trip out to Lake Geneva to do our best imitation of a bike racer and to record this bit of podcasting. Along the way, we interview Kerry Gonzalez who laid out the course at the Lake Geneva race. We also talk with the Commissioner of the Hugh Jass Race Series – Mr. Hubert Jay Jonah Jass (H-Triple-J) his own bad self and we chat with Hugh Jass Regulars, Mr. Jeff Meade and Danger Gnome Correspondent, Shannon Chapwesk!

This week’s show beer was Lakefront Brewery’s IPA.

Lakefront IPA has been a staple for us for many years. Most show nights are followed up with a stop at the Foundation just down the street for a tasty IPA or two. 6.6%ABV and an 89 at Beer Advocate rating this brew as Very Good. That said, it is one of my personal favorites and if you can every get a draught of the “Cask-conditioned” version I’d encourage you to have one as I consider that one of the best beers I’ve had the pleasure to drink!

In more beer news, bicycling friends and great beer makers, New Belgium, has been sold – https://www.denverpost.com/2019/11/19/new-belgium-brewing-sale-kirin/ – looks like a lot of folks at this employee-owned brewery will do well!

We take a call from Keri in Wyoming to take about a fatbike, running and skiing event called The Drift with 13, 28 and 100 mile races. Plus, general tomfoolery. It was a cold and snowy start to November in Wisconsin!

This week’s show beer was from Toppling Goliath, brewed in beautiful Decorah, IA. FYI, Decorah has one of the best mountain bike trail systems in the midwest!

Toppling Goliath Pseudo Sue is an American IPA and scores a 100 on Beer Advocate which is World Class! 6.8% ABV, 45 IBU

• Sticking with the 2015 Salsa Beargrease.  Why give up a great thing? This will be the 5th year racing this bike.  I’ve tested multiple bikes from various manufacturers but this frame is still my favorite.  I continue to upgrade the components. I have the Sram Eagle XX1 drivetrain and I’ve got a new set of the Hed Carbon wheels being set up with the I9 Hydra Hubs and light Berd Spokes.  Should drop the total weight of the bike down to 21lbs when it’s finished.
