Green Day's "punk rock opera," American Idiot, celebrated its 20th birthday at the end of September, and, you know, we figured we'd celebrate along with it. In the second half of 2004, it was impossible to get away from the 4 singles spawned by this album, and it seems like it's only gained more popularity and acclaim in the years since. But was it really ALL that? Did American Idiot really have a lot to say about the state of the world in 2004, or was it just Green Day's attempt to make it bigger than they ever had before? We're trying to figure that out in this episode.
