  • Alex Benson | 7 Mile Man | Dadvocate
    About today’s guest Alex Benson:

My name is Alex Benson, I grew up in Vermont in what I would say is a pretty “normal” life. My parents were married and still are, I went to school, got good grades, had the normal fights with my brother that all brothers do, and played sports through high school and lived your average American childhood.
However, unlike most kids who come out of high school and head to college with a mission for changing the world or at least the slightest of direction, I came out of high school having no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I had passions, I had intentions, but I lacked direction. I ended up attending Springfield college in Massachusetts more by force than by choice and scrambled around between majors. By the end of my four years I had managed to complete two bachelors degrees, one in English and another in Communications, but still had no idea what I was actually going to do with my life once I left that campus.
There were projected ideas onto what I should be doing from my parents, none of which lead to a driving passion for me. Not long after I ended up married, with a baby on the way, working three jobs, and still not fulfilled in my life, still struggling to figure out my purpose. My marriage fell apart, I ended up back at my parents home in my late 20’s with my little girl and had to start over again. It was a very low period in my life where I knew I had to make changes, I had to find my purpose, my passions or I would be forever living in this space of emptiness and a feeling of failure.
Through the three years I was back home I began to really work on me as an individual. I began teaching as a para-educator for special needs children, worked on my health and fitness losing 60 lbs., and began my journey to becoming a firefighter. I began to surround myself with people who thought on a different level, had passions, had focus, and had a vision for their future and I began to work on my mind more than my job.
That is where the evolution of my life began.
Through this process of my life falling apart, it somehow began to fall into place. I met my now wife, Lela, and we currently have four kids together.
You see the thing is, if I had not gone through the struggles I did and made a decision to embrace the lows, celebrate the highs, and learn along the journey I would not be where I am today. I had to take ownership for the things in my life that were lacking, I had to learn what it meant to truly become a man of God, what it meant to be a committed husband and father. Through this process I have found my passion, to contribute to the world a message of what it means to be a 7 mile man, to inspire others to keep going, to keep evolving, to keep seeking the truth, to continue to be of service in all areas of their life. Let’s join together as men to learn what it means to truly become a 7 mile man.

Great conversation with Paul as he discusses how he became involved with Amazon FBA & quite a few actionable tips for you & your website!
    About Paul (from http://pauleaston.com/about)

I started my working career in the military and served 20 years. That’s right, I am not a 21 year, native Internet connected, millennial! I actually know the sound of dial up! And have grey hair! I started my Journey online with SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and was very proactive. To learn my trade I took every online course I course and I applied it to small niche site believe it or not….Dog clothes – the small cute, furry and fun costumes like these:

For me it was all about ranking, I taught myself web design (this was pre shopify/wordpress days) I got the site to the top 10 in Google, then I have to understand marketing and getting people to do things! I took massive action learning full out by doing! It was progress, but also a challenging to win with Google and it was the marketing side I really enjoyed I than started working with some small local business owners to help them with their ranking. I really enjoyed this work.

  • Jason Kravits | Role Reversal | Minisode
In any setting with any event roles can be reversed in an instant… that was just the case here… Jason Kravits who does a number of the “official interviews” for Dad 2.0 took a little time to chat with me and share some of what he has learned in his 16 years as a father.
If you are not familiar with Jason Kravitz here is a mini-bio from the IMDB:
Jason began his career in Washington, DC, at age 13, playing Lolo in the short-lived but highly acclaimed PBS series Powerhouse (1982). Several years later, after graduating from the University of Maryland, he found a home in the Washington, DC, theater community, where he became a well-known presence at theaters such as the Round House Theater, the Shakespeare Theater, and the Woolly Mammoth Theater Company (of which he is still a member).
Upon moving to New York City, Jason began working with the writer-performer collective known as Rumble in the Red Room. There, alongside fellow writer-performer Joel Jones, he developed the material for “Making Faces,” which would eventually go on to win Best Sketch Show at 1999’s U.S. Comedy Festival in Aspen, Co.
This prompted him to move to Los Angeles, where he soon landed a guest-star spot on David Kelley’s The Practice (1997). This role would eventually grow and, by the beginning of the fifth season, his character, A.D.A Richard Bay, would be a regular on the show. (The character would eventually meet his demise in a hail of bullets on the show’s 100th episode.)
After several more busy years of television and film work, Jason would eventually move back to New York, although he remained busy on both coasts as both an actor and a writer. Along with continuing work in TV and film, he has appeared on the Broadway stage in “Relatively Speaking,” “The Drowsy Chaperone,” and “Sly Fox.” His series of short films about fatherhood, “Lords of the Playground,” was recently in development with CBS.
Jason Kravits is probably best known for his work on television dramas such as “The Practice” and the Law & Order (1990) franchises. He has found just as much success in comedy, however, from his award-winning original sketch show “Making Faces” to noted roles on Everybody Loves Raymond (1996) and Curb Your Enthusiasm (2000). As of fall 2011, he appeared on Broadway in “Relatively Speaking,” a night of one-act plays by _Ethan Coen, Elaine May, and Woody Allen.

  • Brandon Tijerina | Tyro Support Services | Minisode
Not gonna lie, it is always fun when you can speak with someone who has the first name as you! There is probably a psychological issue there… let’s not dig too deep into that!
We had an enjoyable conversation and it shows that while maybe having your father imprisoned may not be ideal, it doesn’t always have a terrible outcome… I LOVE his story!
    Home

Check out below a portion of what Tyro Support Services has to offer Dads!
    TYRO Dads
TYRO Dads teaches men what it means to be responsible fathers, effectively creating men worth following.
TYRO, the company’s flagship suite of programs, was created and is based on the Tijerina family’s personal experience with welfare and incarceration. It is comprised of three components: TYRO Dads, Couple Communication®, and TYRO Job Ethics Training (JET).
TYRO is a holistic, multi-faceted character-building program, designed to strengthen individuals and families. The word TYRO is Latin, meaning novice, apprentice, or someone learning something new. It teaches participants how to overcome destructive generational cycles of poverty, incarceration, and dependency.
TYRO Dads is designed to combat the root issues inherent in destructive or self-serving behavior patterns, through cognitive restructuring and positive role-modeling. In this course, individuals are taught and encouraged to begin taking responsibility for their actions and to act with honor and integrity. Additionally, the TYRO Dads coursework provides people with a healthy model for becoming a responsible citizen and family member. Those who successfully complete the TYRO Dads course earn the title of “TYRO,” as they now stand as warriors for themselves and their families.
