As an antidote to what is going on in the world, we have a conversation about our favourite things. What are those things that we like to do, eat, listen to or look at? Can they become not so favourite things over time? Reading has been one of those things we have been doing for a long time and continues to bring pleasure. Running used to be fun, but no longer and other aerobic activities have taken its place. Favourite music becomes unbearable in its patriarchal context. Favourite things can change as we discover new interests or physical limitations force revisions. As we have more time to think, we also make different choices based on what we learn so that what is favourite becomes more consistent with what we value. There are not so favourite things that we continue to do because they are healthy, like medical appointments. And there are favourite things that we rediscover like card collecting.
