East Hall head football coach Matt Turner joins the FCA North Georgia Coaches Show from Longstreet Cafe!

Coach Turner returns to the FCA North Georgia Coaches Show to talk about his journey back home to East Hall, where he grew up and attended high school, and what it's like coaching the Vikings in the same community that helped shape him.

Turner breaks down the 2026 East Hall football team, including the challenge of replacing several key offensive players from last season, the emergence of sophomore quarterback Jody Dudley, and a unique roster featuring 18 seniors and a huge freshman class of 27 players. He also talks about the importance of developing young players and why having a strong group of freshman linemen could pay dividends for the program in the years ahead.

The conversation also covers the Vikings' 1-2 start, the lessons learned against White County and Franklin County, and what's ahead as East Hall prepares for Oglethorpe County and a difficult stretch of games against North Hall, Monroe Area, Oconee County and East Jackson.

Coach Turner shares his philosophy of developing players from middle school through varsity, building a strong connection with the Junior Vikings program, and creating a consistent identity throughout the East Hall football community. He also explains why he believes coaches should "fit the scheme to your kids" rather than forcing players into a particular system.

Turner and the hosts dive into the changing nature of high school football, including player safety, practice length and the importance of doing less. Coach Turner explains why East Hall has moved from two-and-a-half-hour practices to less than 90 minutes and why morning practices have helped keep players physically and mentally fresh while giving them time for schoolwork, tutoring, appointments and life outside of football.

The conversation also touches on instant replay in high school football, the challenges of bringing additional technology into the game, and the continuing evolution of offensive schemes. Turner explains why he enjoys playing nearby schools and believes local rivalries and community connections are an important part of high school football.

Dawson County head football coach Jaybo Shaw joins the FCA North Georgia Coaches Show from Longstreet Cafe!

Coach Shaw sits down with Joel Williams and North Georgia FCA Director Clint Fair to talk about his journey back home to North Georgia after coaching at Wayne County, what attracted him to the Dawson County Tigers program, and how becoming a husband and father has changed the priorities that guide his career.

Jaybo also takes us back through his playing days at Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern, sharing stories about playing for legendary coach Paul Johnson, his relationship with Army head coach Jeff Monken, and the coaches who helped shape the man and coach he is today.

The conversation turns to one of Jaybo's former Rabun County quarterbacks, Georgia's Gunner Stockton. Joel Williams and North Georgia FCA Director Clint Fair welcome Cherokee Bluff head football coach Tommy Jones as the Bears move into the early weeks of the 2026 season and prepare for a historic first varsity matchup with nearby rival Flowery Branch.

Coach Jones talks about what his team learned from its season-opening loss to East Forsyth and why he believes "adversity is a gift." Joel Williams and North Georgia FCA Director Clint Fair kick off the new season with Gainesville High School head football coach Tavius Bryant, just days before one of Georgia high school football's biggest opening-week matchups: Gainesville vs. Buford on a national stage.
