Dear FCBC Walnut Family and Friends,

In response to the unrest in our nation, I am taking time to Listen, Learn, and Empathize. 

As one of your pastors, I confess how little I know about systemic racism . . . the challenges of being a Black American Christian . . . what it’s like for good police officers and their families . . . how to care for small business owners who have lost their businesses due to rioting. . . how to read through all the political motives on social media/news outlets to find the truth. 

Many feel the societal pressure to respond immediately through social media or other public formats.

But before you respond, I encourage you to listen, learn, and empathize with both sides. Hear their stories (both Black Americans and good police officers). Be a peacemaker, an agent of reconciliation, and a calm voice of unity and reason in a time of chaos.

1. What have you discovered more about yourself in the shelter-in-place order? What are the areas that you need to work on so that you can be more aligned to be a disciple of Jesus Christ? 

2. If you experienced tension or conflicts in relationships, what are the causes and what can you do to improve the relationship? 

3. In the area of “unity, purity and ongoing revival,” which area do you want to start working for you to grow deep in Christ? 

4. How would you cultivate strong spiritual disciplines to sustain you as you prepare to emerge from the shelter-in-place order?

Hi FCBCW family and friends!

During our Wednesday night prayer meetings, I am leading our English congregation through a series of short devotionals from Malachi to prepare our hearts to re-enter the church (in phases) when that time comes. 

While a reopening task force is working on the administrative preparation (legality, safety, sustainability, timeline, online platforms, etc)., these applicational devotions are meant to prepare us spiritually.
