Sometimes it is easy to get stuck in a rut, and not even realize we are stuck! That applies to our perceptions and awareness of the world around us as well. We get stuck thinking, acting, and living like the world around us, perhaps, without even realizing it. Holy Week, however, is an opportunity to be startled awake by the events surrounding Jesus and the Kingdom he proclaims in the process.
Check out the final installment of our "Clarifying Creation" series. In this episode, we discuss the importance of divine rest, as featured in the 7th creation day, as well as draw some final conclusions from our study, and highlight a few resources for those wanting to dive even deeper into studying the creation narrative and related topics.
Why can’t we all just get along? This sentiment is often echoed in our world today, but Jesus had a solution. The Church was meant, among other things, to serve as a beacon of unity. So why are we often so divided, and what can we do about it? Join us for part 4 of our series, “Jesus: 1 On 1.”
In this session, we continue our exploration of Genesis 1, paying special attention to the Ancient Near-Eastern context within which the story was composed and directly speaks. The focus of this episode is humanity and the important distinctions that the Genesis story makes regarding mankind compared to the perceptions of the peoples surrounding Israel.
Different seasons in life might cause us to wonder, “Am I doing faith right?” It could be a season of struggle, or a season of stumbling. We might even feel this way because our journey with Jesus looks or feels different from that of other believers. For whatever reason, almost every Christian will wonder at some point if they haven’t missed something important. How can we know for sure whether we are really following Jesus or not? Join us for part 3 of our series, “Jesus: 1 On 1,” as we continue learning what it means to have a personal relationship with Christ.
In this session, we continue looking at the story of Genesis 1, focusing on the "filling" days of the story, and how some of the unique details separate the biblical creation narrative from those of other surrounding cultures.
A relationship with Jesus is vital to experiencing God’s work and calling in our lives, but how do we actually get to know Jesus? We can read about him in the Bible, but is that enough? Join us as we continue our sermon series, “Jesus: 1 On 1,” where we will learn how to get to know Jesus personally through scripture.
In this session we analyze the first three days of the creation story, noting the structure and form that God gives to the world and how it speaks to his greater intention and purpose for it.
We often catch a different side of someone when we sit down with them 1 on 1. This holds true for Jesus as well. In our new series, “Jesus: 1 On 1,” we will look at some of the private conversations Jesus had with individuals to catch a glimpse of who he was as a person. This week, we kick off with a private conversation between Jesus, and a man named Nicodemus, someone who wasn’t yet sure what to make of the Lord or what he had been doing.
In this session we cover Genesis 1:2, discussing the structure of the creation story, and how it serves to support the overall message of the story.
