“Fathers (parents), do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
Ephesians 6:4 (ESV)
This states our parental purpose. I know it is addressed to “fathers”. Fathers are ultimately responsible for their children but that does not change the purpose of the mother of those children. Plus, the Greek word broadens the verse’s meaning. “Pater”
(pat-ayr’) Father, forefather or parents. It is possible the verse could be read this way.
Fathers (parents), do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.Good parenting is when we make a commitment to our God-given purpose which is, not provoking them to anger, but teaching them. Some parents think good parenting is bullying their children. That backfires. What is godly parenting? Teaching them to live disciplined lives. Teaching them to fear the Lord. Teaching them that God is good but a righteous judge. A good parent doesn’t just say it, they model that kind of life.
