My morning routine used to look like this
5:00am-5:15am- wake up; coffee
5:20am-5:40am- devotions
5:45am-6:30am- Workout
6:30am-6:45am- Meditations
6:45am-7:00am- read; coursework
7:00am-7:20am- Shower
7:20am-7:40am- Breakfast
7:40am-8:00am- Ready for work
8:15am- Leave for work
This bullshit lasted for about 3 days, MAYBE a week if I literally had nothing else to do the night before.
Over and over I would try to do this, shorten times, extend times, wake up earlier, cut something out.
You know what? I FAILED EVERYTIME, and guys, not just once, but twice, thrice and quadrice lol - I mean I just couldn't STICK it like I wanted. I wanted so bad to be one of those people who PREACHED a morning routine, hell I even taught that to my clients!!!
It wasn't until I heard a short clip of a monk who stated this "A morning routine is not about waking up early, it's not about the coffee, though those things are important, it's about grounding and being still"-that's when it clicked.
I couldn't possibly stick to this strict and rigid schedule of just "to-do's" because it didn't feel good to me. NONE OF IT DID.
I had to completely unlearn everything I thought I had to do, which was fill up my morning with a weeks worth of things to do.
So I backed off completely and that in and of itself, already felt amazing. I felt like I could breathe and had space and ease.
I dove into what made me feel absolute joy. What things did I look forward to doing AND not only that, but I F*ed the morning routine and made this into my DAILY routine.
Now, I do ONE thing every morning. ONE THING. and it sets me up for the best days and even on the not-so-best day, it gives me the resilience and mindset I need to power through.
Listen in to see how to build a daily routine (whether that's done in the morning, afternoon, or evening) that actually serves you and propels you forward.
To anything else that feels icky to you or forced- 2 words.
