Societal Norm

Fear

Listen Later

Welcome back to Societal Norm! We’re back from our hiatus with an intimate episode on fear. What is it? Why do we feel it? What do we do about it?

Fear — not unlike happiness, sadness, or anxiety — is a signal sent from the brain to the body, because sometimes the brain needs help interpreting the things around us. It’s as if the brain is sending a coded message to itself that it must then decode and hopefully respond to correctly. Fear’s purpose is to spur you into action. Fight, or flight, put into evolutionary terms. It is a survival mechanism, that frankly, could use an update.
