In today's episode of the Fearlessly Facing Fifty podcast, and as I continue the Surround Yourself With Greatness Series, I am so pleased to have an incredible guest. Rob Gaduet, from the Cajun Navy Ground Force. 

Volunteers are often doing the work to help their neighbors pick up the pieces and rebuild. One of those organizations is the Cajun Navy. The group got its start after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 when boat owners stepped up to help rescue people. Since then, Cajun Navy volunteers have become a regular presence whenever a natural disaster strikes and are often the first on the scene.

One of those volunteers is Rob Gaudet. He’s from the Cajun Navy Ground Force in Louisiana and is the founder and director of the Cajun Navy Foundation. Rob has been on the road for weeks helping in the wake of Hurricane Ian. Today, he’s sharing what he’s seeing now - 69 days past landfall, and stories of how they're making an impact and offering help when it is so needed.

A bonus episode all about tips and tricks to alleviate holiday stress. Who gets an upset stomach just thinking about all that has to be done between now and the end of the year...yikes! I've been there - and am a recovering perfectionist for sure! In this bonus episode I share my 3 tips to alleviate holiday stress and enjoy them! 

 

1)  Let go of the P word! Perfectionism. If all the holiday decorations, presents, cookies, outfits, and responsibilities must be done perfectly, you are setting yourself up for stress and over the top anxiety. It’s easy to fall into the “if it’s not perfect, I’ve failed” trap. Show your imperfections, your vulnerabilities….happy and meaningful - joy’full’ hearts are what we need to strive for.

Identify Your stress triggers  

2)  There is power in saying No. This is so challenging because we feel like we’re letting people down. But when you make thoughtful choices about what you WANT to do and what you don’t want to do, you can then participate in the things that are meaningful to you and bring you joy, rather than those that make you anxious. 

Build your Village

• Identify your connected community  and ask for support!

 

3)  Take time to remember those who are not with you. The holidays can be a sad and stressful time when you have lost someone that you love.  Create a tradition to remember them.

Are your #college kids heading home for the holidays?  In this episode, I share some tips for holidays with a full house.

Don't have a welcome committee when they walk in the door. Let them ease back in (they are tired)

Let the spend time with their friends - they need it.

And discuss expectations before they arrive home. It makes a win/win for all.

When Jenny Hubbard lost her six-year-old daughter Catherine in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012, she was confronted with a grief and loss no parent should ever face. And yet, In the depths of her pain, she sought to inspire and founded the CVH Animal Sanctuary in her daughter’s memory, creating a place of healing for humans, animals and the environment – a place to fulfill one little girl’s dream of kindness and compassion for all.
