This episode is all about suffering. What is our relationship with suffering? Society’s most common way to deal with suffering is a distraction, but this is merely a way to delay the inevitable: that there are dark days ahead. Denying this only renders us unprepared. This is why so many succumb to suffering that becomes anguish and results in untimely deaths that we have all witnessed so many times. Akshay helps us navigate through this and find meaning in suffering.
It’s almost like saying he holds our hands through suffering, but really we take this journey on our own. Our suffering is ours to overcome but even more than that, how much we suffer is entirely up to us. There is incredible courage to involuntarily put yourself in danger and even more to take that and condition yourself to embrace suffering. Because no suffering is too much to bear, no. Fortunately, we can condition ourselves to overcome all this death, suffering, and disease.
Every suffering has meaning but understandably, it is so hard to grasp that especially when we are in the thick of it. And Akshay has been in the thick of it all, from his PTSD to a near suicide and taking that suffering to now preparing for the first solo expedition in Antarctica. But even that preparation requires suffering. Akshay teaches us how to get to that point of developing a healthy relationship with your suffering and ultimately yourself.
Build a new better life with us. Join other men on purpose that move past their fear and create the life they desire. Check out these other episodes and find meaning in suffering, Everything Happens for a Reason and Make Fear Your Tailwind Instead of a Headwind.
