Serving Jesus Christ

February 13, 2022 Sermon - God Is Good

Listen Later

In this episode of Serving Jesus Christ, Pastor Swanson shares a Sunday message titled,

God Is Good

Have you ever been given a chance to change? - A chance that might be described as a second chance!

Of course, you have. . . that is the very definition of coming to faith.

The Assyrian city of Nineveh was given such a chance as recorded in the Book of Jonah. The Lord commissioned Jonah to bear witness to God’s love and forgiveness to the city of Nineveh and the Assyrian people.

The Lord commissioned Jonah to deliver the news of their opportunity for a second chance.

For what purpose?

For the same reason that the Lord has commissioned every believer to go bear strong witness of His salvation - to bear witness to the fact that men and women can be saved from sin and death and the coming judgment of God.

God loved the Ninevites and wanted them to repent of all their wickedness and to trust in Him.

We all know the story. . . the central theme. . . of Jonah.

After Jonah got squared away. . . that is, got his head wrapped around the mission and fulfilled God’s calling. . . the Ninevites responded to the message.

The wicked unbelieving pagans repented and turned from their sin and believed and trusted in God.

However, over time, the Ninevites and the Assyrian kingdom rejected God, along with His Law and His ways. They fell away. . . they abandoned their commitment to the Lord.
