Bridging The Continents

February 13 2026 - Windhoek Airport Pickup

Listen Later

Location: Namibia

Summary:

Today was a busy but wonderful day in Windhoek, Namibia. I started by picking up Gert-Jan at the airport around 1 PM. The airport has two separate buildings for arrivals and departures, which was a bit confusing at first. While waiting, I managed to get forms for reclaiming VAT on my phone and computer replacements, though I'll need to process this at the border when leaving the country. Gert-Jan's arrival was delayed due to some form complications, and he was wearing a mask as precaution due to flu outbreaks in the Netherlands. By 2 PM he finally made it through the gate. We then drove to Okahandja to visit Janneke, Berend, Christian, and Anne, arriving around 4:30 PM. They gave us an amazing tour of their paint manufacturing facility - Coral Coatings - which produces 160 different paint products and employs about 60 people. They're working to become Namibia's highest volume paint reseller, and Okahandja is strategically located for distribution across the country. Their home is beautifully situated next to a seasonal river and a sand golf course. We enjoyed delicious food and wonderful hospitality in the evening. This was my third visit, but likely Gert-Jan's first and last, as our planned route doesn't justify a return trip. Fortunately, they'll be visiting the Netherlands in May anyway. It's incredible to have such generous friends in a foreign country.
