England and Gotham FC defender Jess Carter has called on social media platforms to take stronger action after facing racial abuse online during the summer’s tournament.
Speaking to CNBC’s Tania Bryer, Carter said she initially stayed silent but realised she needed support. “It’s not weak to speak up,” she said, urging others not to suffer alone.
She described the abuse as “vile” and said platforms must do more to prevent it before it happens. “No player or person should have to go on social media and be subject to such abuse.”
