In this, the third John Grisham film adaptation we've covered during our journey, we begin to see some patterns in the author's storytelling style emerge. Sadly, this first of two Joel Schumacher directed entries was not our favorite, and is one of the rare times we can't find a lot positive to say. But we try, and do have some moments to call out.

I mix things up a bit in this episode and am joined by my friend Paul Keelan from Cinematic Underdogs Podcast to discuss one of our shared favorite films of the year - a documentary with a poetic approach to a scientific topic unlike anything you'd normally see. I also cover one of my most anticipated animated films of the year and share my thoughts on the first episode in Netflix's second season of their Untold sports documentary series.

Continuing our journey in the John Grisham Cinematic Universe, this week we discuss the author's second film adaptation. There is decidedly less lawyering, but a lot more government conspiracy and it's entirely relevant today.

The characters in one of these two films sure could do with a dose of the good stuff from the fantastical world of the other.

The tone of these two films could not be further apart. One is a vital documentary about an indigenous people facing genocide, and the other is the Ryan Reynolds-ification of Brad Pitt in what has become a very typical big, loud, quippy action-comedy formula.

For the next couple of months we will be covering the movie adaptations of author John Grisham's legal thrillers. With a who's who of a cast and Oscar-winning filmmaker, this franchise-starter is a somewhat quieter take on the typical cinematic thriller, but one that puts intelligence and relatability above superhuman acts. Also note that this is one of Tom Cruise's highest running distance totals of his filmography, so of course that means it's great.
