  • Ep 159. (Mini) In Search of Our Podcast Avatar - A Message to Podcasters and Creators Alike

If you are a podcaster or a blogger, you may have heard of the phase "avatar for your content".

If not, perhaps you have heard of the phrase "ideal customer avatar". But what is it?

A customer avatar (or a podcast avatar) is a fictional character that represents your ideal prospect. When complete, it will help you understand the motivating beliefs, fears and secret desires that influence your customer's buying decisions, or a podcast listener's decision in choosing your show.

Yes, it's true that you want to know their income, location (where they live), spending behaviors, favorite brands, website, etc. the list goes on and on and on....

What this exercise or approach doesn't tell you is that it's a process, and the avatar may change overtime.

Many creators fear this exercise not only because it's abstract in a sense, an avatar is "made-up", but also because the concern and stress behind the need to get it right the first time.

This riff is about the process, and the fact that we might not get it right the first time or the second or third time.

For Feisworld, it's an on-going exploration. We've attempted a few times trying to nail down the ideal listeners but it's not as easy as it sounds.

This is an open conversation, and please join in and let me know how you've tackled this process.

    Much love and respect,

    Fei

  • Ep 158. Michael Roderick: How to Get the Meetings, Friends, and Connections You Want

Michael Roderick is the Founder of Small Pond Enterprises LLC., a company that offers consulting services, workshops, and events to promote and facilitate entrepreneurship and connecting opportunities.

This episode is created for people who want to learn more about:

    • How to navigate significant shifts in careers (average employment today in 2018 is 4.6 years)
    • How to gain access to anyone, across industries

Michael went through a number of significant and unlikely career changes. For example, he went from working as a high school teacher to a successful Broadway producer in under two years.

He founded The Connecting Connectors Conference (ConnectorCon). He also started an arts incubator program to teach more artists about building and growing their own businesses (PLAE).

Access to Anyone is Michael Roderick's podcast, which he co-hosted with Michael Schein.

Careers, especially the ones where you find fulfillment and desire to stick to for a long time, don't surface on their own. His podcast explores the tools, methods, and technology that will get you the meetings, friends, and connections you want.

What I personally love the most about the show is that it's rich in content and lighthearted in execution. One approach that I can relate to the most is the idea to Connect Across Industries. Because our own podcast, Feisoworld, has historically gone after people from different walks of life, many of the guests have come together to start new and interesting projects, such as video production and web development.

If you want to learn more and connect with Michael Roderick, visit his website at http://www.smallpondenterprises.com/

  • Ep 157. Nicole Jansen: Find Your Genius and Create a Business You Love

    About Our Guest

Over the past 30 years, Nicole Jansen has coached and trained thousands of leaders, helping them achieve extraordinary results in business and in life.

As a certified Human Behavior Specialist, Business Breakthrough Coach, and Strategic Intervention Coach, Nicole has developed her own special brand of mentorship, which focuses on tapping into your strengths and true purpose, to create lasting success.

On a recent call with Nicole to talk about a Mastermind group I started for podcasters (learn more about altPodcasters here), she gave me a ton of ideas and pinpointed our value-add in minutes. I also discussed Feisworld's first online course and new services to help English-speaking podcasters launch their shows in China, Nicole's feedback was equally relevant and helpful.

Nicole Jansen is the founder of Discover The Edge. Her clients are mission-driven and range from start-up entrepreneurs to large franchise organizations.

If you are a content creator, or a podcaster, I think you'll find this episode helpful in finding your voice, understanding the process, playing the long game.

There's much to be said about playing the long game, but how do people do it in the field remains a mystery. It's not as glamours as you think, and it doesn't start or end with a Tesla.

Nicole I love telling the truth, because it is a privilege to show up for what you love.

If you are one of us, I hope you too continue to do this tomorrow, the week after, decades from now.

[10:00] One of the things that I love is this term called ‘transcreation’: you are not just translating, you are taking a little bit of freedom of changing the message to where it really resonates but without taking anything away from the essence. It’s really that act of transcreation that you are putting together when you go from one language to another.

  • Ep 151. William Hung: The Real Story

William James Hung is a Hong Kong-born American former singer who gained fame in early 2004 as a result of his off-key audition performance of Ricky Martin's hit song "She Bangs" on the third season of the television series American Idol.

Soon after American Idol ended, William landed a number of gigs as a singer and appeared on some of the top American Shows such as Jimmy Kimmel Live!, On Air with Ryan Seacrest, Entertainment Tonight, David Letterman, The Howard Stern Radio Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

But he has a story left to tell - while many people think he simply put on an act to embarrass himself, the truth was far from it. He wanted to sing and get on stage. This is what our conversation is about.  Fast forward 14 years, William has released two albums but is looking to try other things in life, become a coach and help others overcome adversity. He's still figuring things out - and talking to him was fascinating.
