On this episode of Q&A we discuss Jesus’ teaching on false prophets and how we are supposed to think about prophets/prophecy today. We also address fallen pastors, hellfire street preachers, bad people who have had a good influence, how Jesus has the sickest (Old Testament) references, Michael's mediocre definition of literary ‘foils,’ how ancient false prophecy and modern false teaching are basically the same, how religion adds to the gospel, if Peter wrote Jude, the problem with denying judgment, sheep's clothing (literally) in The Odyssey, online ‘watchdog’ ministries, and how everyone seems to be joining a cult.

On this episode of the Q&A pod we discuss Matthew 7:7-11 and Jesus' command to his disciples to shamelessly ask him for things. Specifically we dive into: Ruth's attempt to turn the podcast into the movie Cast Away, how to open a coconut, an insight from a fictional horse named Digory on cultivating intimacy with God through asking, wondering if we should have asked God for things when we didn't, the difference between earthly gifts and kingdom gifts, accepting our parents "I told you so's," the difficulty in asking God for things that appear to be good but not receiving them, how Jesus' teaching on prayer intersects with our suffering, and how some listeners pray mean things for others (maybe/probably...). We conclude by framing our perspective on prayer through the kingdom of God and how we are still waiting for it to come in full.
Unfortunately, the sermon this Q&A podcast is based on was not recorded. Our sermon recordings will be back next week.

On this episode of the Q&A pod we discuss Jesus' teaching on "Do not judge" in Matthew 7:1-6. We talk about the etymology and different uses of "judge" in the New Testament, how word definitions are shaped by their context, the essence of holiness and why you should never let a dog use your wedding dress as a bed, Ruth's lack of fine china in her home, Michael's irrational fear of getting sued for destroying a wedding cake, why the text applies to how Christians should relate to other Christians and non-Christians, and if some people are so bad we shouldn't bother sharing the gospel with them (spoiler alert: no). Plus, we close by discussing the overall message of the Sermon on the Mount, why we are preaching it, why C.S. Lewis was accused of 'not caring' for it, and our hope Fellow Citizens in going through these teachings from Jesus.

Today on the Q&A pod we discuss the third (and most specific) sermon in a row on the Lord’s Prayer. We looks at topics like how to forgive when you don’t ‘feel’ like it, emotionally responding to good doctrine, Michael getting cussed out while biking, the significance of the number 7 in Scripture, can you submit questions to this podcast anonymously?, how sin hurts fellowship with God, experiencing grace when you’ve already received it, what to say (or forget to say) when serving the Lord’s Supper, how asking for forgiveness deepens intimacy, and the significance of liturgical practices like confession and assurance.
