Home Church Questions
1.  Have someone read John 1:1-5.  What are some of the similarities between the way John begins his Gospel and the way Genesis begins?  Why does John make these connections?

2.  John’s Gospel is unique from the other three Gospels.  For example, we learn the Christmas story begins before creation (because the Son was present at creation).  Why is it important for us to consider that the Christmas story begins before creation?

3.  If we believe Jesus is truly God, this should make other teachings in the Bible simpler to embrace.  What are some teachings in the Bible that become less challenging when we realize Jesus is God?

4.  Who is an example of a person you have wanted to meet in your life?  Why should it excite us that God wants to be known by us?  What should we do if we don’t value that He wants to be known by us?

5.  Jesus is the light, and we need the light because we are in darkness.  What are some examples of darkness we experience in our lives and in our world?  What does it look like for Jesus to be the light in our darkness?

6.  J.I. Packer suggests we should view the Incarnation “not simply as a marvel of nature, but rather as a wonder of grace.”  What is the reason Jesus was born as one of us?  Why is it important we consider why he was born as we celebrate Christmas?

7.  When we believe Jesus is the Word and the light Who has come into the world for us, it should give us great confidence that the darkness will not overcome the light (1:5).  What are some specific ways you can be encouraged in your life right now knowing the darkness will not overcome the light?

Mission Highlight - Pray for the Unreached: The Karma in India
The Kurmi, renowned for their agricultural skills in northern India, are classified as an Other Backward Class (OBC). This refers to communities that are “educationally or socially backward” or disadvantaged. Less than 0.1% of the 22 million Karma in India are Christian. An estimated 453 workers are needed to share the gospel among these peoples. Many Kurmi are resistant to the Gospel, fearing it might alienate their children from family traditions. Pray for miracles and dreams to reveal Jesus' power, for believers to live out Christ's teachings, and for Scripture to inspire Kurmi families to embrace salvation and share it with others.

Mission Highlight - Pray for the Unreached: The Shaikh in Bangladesh
The Shaikh in Bangladesh, a sociocultural group originally tied to Arab settlers, now primarily identify as Muslim traders with flexible roles in society. They are thought to be descendants of Hindu warriors who converted to Islam and adopted the name Shaikh to signify their faith. Despite their large population of over 134 million, less than 0.1% are Christians, and an estimated 2,685 workers are needed to reach them with the Gospel. Pray for Shaikh families to experience God's blessings through dreams, miracles, and the power of Scripture in their homes. Pray for Shaikh leaders to boldly share their testimonies, for healing and restoration within their families, and for entire communities to seek and find God's Kingdom.

MISSION HIGHLIGHT - Pray for the Unreached: The Brahmin in India
The Brahmins, historically a priestly and influential caste in India, continue to hold high social status, though many now pursue modern professions instead of traditional religious roles. Changes in India’s economy and education are reshaping caste dynamics, but less than 0.1% of Brahmins are Christians. Hinduism is the primary religion among the Brahmin, and an estimated 700 workers are needed to reach the nearly 35 million Brahmin in India.  Pray that they recognize  their true priestly identity in Jesus and embrace the joy of serving Him. Pray that servant leaders are brought up within the Brahmin, who draw all castes to Jesus. Pray that Scripture finds its way into their homes and hearts, helping them lead others into the presence and security of Christ.

1.  This Sunday was our OCC dedication. In what ways are you involved with OCC?  What aspect of Operation Christmas Child do you appreciate?  Why?

2. We looked at the storyline of the Bible and discovered our God is a missionary God from the beginning to the end.  Missions isn’t just one aspect; it is at the very heart of Who He is and what He does.  Is this a new idea to you?  Explain.

3. We looked at several passages to help tell the story of the Bible (see the sermon outline).  Did one or two of these passages stand out to you?  How does that passage relate to the bigger story of our missionary God?

4. What are some ways we should be impacted when we consider that God’s heart for missions is good news for us?  In other words, when we realize we are among the “nations” and Jesus was sent as our Savior, how should we respond?

5. When we realize missions is at the heart of Who God is and what He does, we should be impacted so that missions becomes central to who we are and what we do.  Would you say missions is merely one aspect of your life, or is missions at the heart of who you are?  Explain.

How could missions become more central to your life?  What next steps can you and your Home Church take so missions becomes more central to who we are and what we do?  (For example, we have been including a “Mission Highlight” at the bottom of the discussion questions.  Your Home Church can spend some time reading this and praying.)

Mission Highlight - Pray for the Unreached: The Hui in China
The Hui people of China, numbering around 13.7 million, are primarily Sunni Muslims with roots tracing back to Arab, Persian, Mongol, and Chinese ancestors. They speak Mandarin with some Arabic and Persian influences and are spread across nearly all of China's counties, known for their skills in business and various trades. Despite widespread persecution of Uyghur Muslims by the Chinese Communist Party, the Hui have not faced the same level of oppression. There are no known gospel movements among the Hui, with less than 0.1% identifying as Christians. An estimated 275 workers are needed, at a ratio of 1 worker per 50,000 people. Prayers focus on opportunities for outreach, spiritual conviction, and a desire for Jesus among Hui families, with the hope that they would embrace Christ and share the gospel across their communities.

•  Where does Jude fit?

- Jude, the brother of James and half brother of Jesus, originally intended to write about the nature of and glory of the salvation we have in Christ.

- The rise of false teachers and growth of their impact on the community

                shifted Jude’s focus to writing a letter warning about these false teachers and calling believers to fight hard for the truth of the teachings they have heard.

•  What should we believe?   

- False teachers have always been and always will be a problem.

- False teachers pervert the truth (doctrinal error) and pervert grace

               (promoting immorality).

     - While the judgment of false teachers may be delayed, it is no less certain.

How should we behave?

Take a strong and constant stand for the truths of the gospel and it’s implications.

Keep yourself in the center of God’s love by loving Him wholeheartedly.

Rest secure in the power of God who can keep you from falling doctrinally or morally.

•  Read the text together. How did Ken’s message apply to you personally?

•  The first of Jude’s message to believers is to contend for the faith (verse 3). What are some current teachings and/or trends, particularly inside the Christian community, that threaten the core truths of Christianity? How can you be a part of preserving “the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints” (ESV)?

•  The second of Jude’s message to believers is to persevere in the faith (verses 20-21). He presents a fourfold pattern for maintaining perseverance of “building… praying… keeping… waiting.” How do each of these contribute to your faithful perseverance? How are you doing?

•   Throughout his letter, Jude presents a litany of characteristics of the false teachers who secretly creep into the church. Read again verses 4, 8, 10-13, and 16. What stands out as things to watch for in identifying false teachers?

•  On the other hand, Jude presents others as needing our assistance in verse 22. Who are these individuals and how do you distinguish them from the false teachers?

•  Jude makes it clear that God brings about judgment on the ungodly and the enemies of his truth. Do you find yourself stressing over the evil and unbelief in the world that is progressing from bad to worse? How should you respond to Jude’s message of coming judgment?

•  What do you have to look forward to in verse 24? How can you keep that at the forefront of your thoughts in a world gone in turmoil?

Malaysia has a population of 13.2 million, with Islam as the predominant religion and Malay as the main language. Less than 0.1% of the population are Christians. While the complete Bible is available in both written and oral forms, no gospel movement has been reported. The need for 264 workers is estimated, with a ratio of 1 worker per 50,000 people. Focus prayer on sending Jesus-following families to live among the Malays, sharing love, forgiveness, and the gospel. There is a call for the Scriptures in the Malay language to reveal God’s love, for healing in families, and for a new generation of Malays to spread the Good News to others.|

1.   Have you ever been in a situation where a “Good    Samaritan” has helped you?  Explain.

2.  Have someone read the parable in Luke 10:30-37 and summarize the story.  How does this story relate to Luke 10:25-29?

3.  In Jesus’ story, a Samaritan is the hero.  His audience would not have considered Samaritans to be heroes.  Why does he involve a Samaritan as a hero?

4.  One point of the story is there are no limits to “who is my neighbor.”  We all have people in our lives and it’s fairly easy to be a good neighbor to them.  Who are some of the people in our lives who are not as easy to relate to as a neighbor?  Explain.

5.  Why should we be a good neighbor even to those we don’t want to be?  What might this look like for you to be a good neighbor to someone this week?

6.  A second point of this parable is there are no limits to how far I should go to be a neighbor.  What are some examples from the parable of the extent to which this Good Samaritan was willing to go to be a good neighbor?

7.  Have you ever been in a situation where you have been a “Good Samaritan?”  To what extent did you go to be a good neighbor?  How far should we go?

8.  This parable is about being a good neighbor like the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:37).  But the context around the parable is also about Jesus (see Luke 10:22-23 and 10:38-42).  How has Jesus been like a “Good Samaritan” to us?  Why would we be more likely to be a good neighbor to others when we consider what Jesus has done for us?

Mission Highlight - Pray for the Unreached: The Najdi Arabs in Saudi Arabia
The Najdi-speaking Arabs, with a population of approximately 14.7 million, primarily reside on Saudi Arabia’s central plateau and speak the Najdi dialect of Arabic. Islam is the dominant religion, and Christianity makes up less than 0.1% of the population. The complete Bible is unavailable, with only portions of Scripture accessible in written and oral form, and no gospel movements have been reported. An estimated 293 workers are needed, at a ratio of 1 worker per 50,000 people. Pray that Najdi families experience encounters that result in their knowledge of Jesus and for protection of Muslim families who have a desire to study God’s word but are fearful what may happen if they do.

1.  Have someone read Matthew 22:15-22.  The goal of the two groups was to trap Jesus.  Why would this question about paying taxes potentially be a trap?

2.  What is the meaning of Jesus’ answer to their question.  Why does He answer this way?

3.  This passage suggests a distinction between the Roman government and God.  It was mentioned in the sermon that some governments have not recognized a distinction between the church and government.  What are some of the negative consequences that can occur when there is no distinction between these two spheres?  For example, why would it be a problem if the state tried to force someone to convert to a particular religion?

4.  In an ideal situation, what should Christians expect of government?  What is the responsibility of the government to the church?

5.  While the government has responsibilities to the church, we have responsibilities to the state.  First, we are supposed to be salt and light (have someone read Matthew 5:13-16).  Why is it important that we are being transformed by the Gospel and becoming more like Christ in order to have an impact as salt and light wherever we live?  What are some ways you are representing Christ to the people in your neighborhood, your workplace, your school, your team?

6.  Second, we also have certain responsibilities to obey the government God has placed over us (see 1 Tim 2:1-3 and Romans 13:1-6).  Why is it important for Christians to be diligent to obey the laws?

7.  Third, we live under a government in which we can have an influence on policies and laws.  What are some ways we can have an influence and why should we try to have an influence?

8.  Philippians 3:20-21 reminds us our ultimate citizenship is in heaven.  If we truly believe this, how should this impact how we live as citizens in Conway?

Uzbekistan has a population of 27.5 million, with Islam as the main religion and Uzbek as the primary language. Christians make up less than 0.1% of the population. While the complete Bible is available in both written and oral form, no movement of the gospel has been reported. An estimated 550 workers are needed, with a ratio of 1 worker per 50,000 people. Focus Prayer on sending long-term laborers to the Uzbeks, fostering religious freedom, and spreading the Good News through strong local disciple-making households. The goal is for Uzbek families to embrace Jesus and build movements of faith across the country.

Focus prayer on sending families to share Jesus' love and forgiveness, scripture translations in Pashto dialects, and inspiring household leaders to embrace Jesus and disciple others, so that Pashtun families turn to Christ and foster faith-based movements within their clans.

- With only 219 words (in the original Greek) 3 John is the shortest New Testament book and the shortest book in the entire Bible.

- Unlike 1 and 2 John which are written to churches, this letter is written to an individual named Gaius. It also includes references to two others; a warning about Diotrephes and a commendation of Demetrius.

- This personal communication gives us some important insight into the life of the early church.

- Divisive conduct in the church is a significant issue and should be addressed

Focus prayer on healing the trauma of Yemeni families affected by war, famine, and other hardships. Pray for spiritual hunger among leaders and the spread of God’s Word through accessible formats like phone apps and audio.

Conviction: So What?

•  Where does 2 John fit?

-  The Apostle John, later in life, calls himself “The Elder” and has some sage advice for a church under his care.

-  The original audience is a sister church to the one John is currently leading.

-  This short epistle (only 245 words) is the second shortest New
    Testament book but has a powerful message of encouragement and warning.

•  What should we believe?   

-  Loving one another is a central pillar of the Christian Life.

-  False teaching has always been and will always be a danger.

-  False teachers lead people astray doctrinally and morally.

•  How should we behave?

•  Read the full text. Was there anything in Ken’s message that surprised you or was new to you?

•  Truth and love are closely linked together in verses 4 through 6. Describe what it means for you to “walk in the truth” in your daily and weekly life.

•  In what ways do you find a dichotomy in your life between profession and practice?

•  John warns of deceivers in the world who are anti-christ (verse 7). Refer back to 1 John 3:18-19, 3:7-10, and 4:1-3. How do you recognize the false prophets by John’s descriptions?

•  In what ways can you “watch yourself” to guard against false doctrine (and the resulting actions) creeping into your life? What does John say is the motivation for your spiritual vigilance? (verse 8, cf. 1 Corinthians 3:11-15)

•  Verses 10 and 11 describe how we are to respond to false teachers. In contrast, how should we respond to those who have been misled by false teaching? How do you tell the difference?

Joe has been serving with Pioneers USA for over 20 years, helping to equip churches and teams to engage with unreached people groups and global missions. Be in prayer for Joe and his family as he continues to work to further God’s kingdom. Pray specifically for the Gober family as they are located in an area of Florida that may be affected by the approaching hurricane. Pray for protection and readiness during this time, and pray that upcoming travel will not be hindered by the weather conditions.

Celebrating 25 years with Ken
Join us next Sunday morning, October 20, during both services as we recognize Ken Wilson serving as our Senior Teaching Pastor for 25 years! We will also gather that evening to eat dinner, enjoy Fellowship, and continue the celebration with Ken and Dawn. Food is provided; we just ask that you bring your lawn chairs and a note to Ken expressing how the Lord has used his time at Fellowship to impact your life. The evening gathering will be from 5:00 to 7:00pm. You can bring those notes with you Sunday morning or evening.
