Proverbs 8 personifies the wisdom of God as a woman. Lady Wisdom stands in contrasting parallelism to Lady Folly or the Adulterous woman. Whereas Lady Folly deceives with her lips and her reward is death, the words of Lady Wisdom are truthful and upright and offer life. Lady wisdom beckons the naive and inexperienced person to listen, because her rewards exceed the profits of monetary wealth.

We will examine some principles of giving so that we can see what grace-giving looks like. What we mean by grace-giving is that it is giving not motivated by coercion (law-based giving), but by God’s grace as evidenced in the work of Christ in your life, and in the lives of others. The principles in our Scripture text teach us that Christian giving is voluntary, a normal part of Christian life, to our spiritual advantage, to be followed through with, proportionate to our means, and meant to meet the true needs of the recipients.

We take a further look at the virtue of respect, followed by a study on hospitality. Disrespect is easy to fall into in both mind, speech, and non-verbal communication. Christians should be hospitable and do it with a cheerful spirit. Opening your home to unbelieving neighbors and friends can be an evangelistic tool.

Proverbs 7 consists of further warnings about the adulterous woman. The main section of the chapter is a story that conveys a lesson about young man who carelessly fell into the adulterous woman's trap. When we embrace wisdom, it can help us respond properly to the seductive tactics that characterize the immoral woman's ways.

Sexaul temptation is everywhere, because society has normalized and even celebrated the expression of sexuality outside the boundaries of marriage. In Proverbs 6:20-35, the father's wisdom is to be internalized so as to have an indelible impression on the son's character so as to help him not yield to temptation. The two main ideas of the text are that we are to follow the path of light and light in temptation and govern our hearts.

We start our stewardship series in 2 Corinthians 8:1-5, where we see an example of giving which God shows us as a pattern for the church. Paul begins by writing about the sacrificial giving of the Macedonian churches. He explains how God’s grace worked in those people’s lives to cause them to give themselves to the Lord. This in turn shaped their hearts in joyful generosity that desired to participate in helping other Christians despite their own deep poverty.

We take a look at the Christian virtue of respect. There is an epidemic of disrespect in modern western society. This study is about the respect that we should show to other people. The respect that men should show toward women, and women toward men. That children should show to parents, and parents to children, and people toward those they do not agree with, etc.

In this message, Pastor Lorch begins a series on prayer. Prayer can be defined simply as talking with God. There is nothing mysterious about prayer. If the Creator-God has revealed Himself to us, it is to be expected that He will desire His creatures to talk to Him. Prayer is directed toward the true and living God. There are several kinds of prayer mentioned in Scripture. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 mentions general prayer, as well as prayers of thanksgiving, supplication, and intercession. He uses perverse speech, sinister gestures, has in his heart to do evil, premeditates his evil deeds, and stirs up controversy. God detests this kind of behavior and those who practice it. The Proverbs six man is in direct contrast to the Matthew 5 man, who is humble in spirit and a peacemaker. Which man do you resemble?
