We focus on recapping the first six books of Amos and begin our study in chapter seven. The first vision, symbolizing God's action, saw a swarm of locusts devouring the people's portion of the later cuttings, after the king had taken the first cutting. Under the figure of fire, the second vision concerns a devastating drought, causing the underground water supplies to dry up and the fields to be consumed. Amos again pleaded Israel's cause. The true spiritual nature of Israel was here tested (and found wanting) by God's plumb line of righteousness in this third of five visions. The sword of judgement was to come from Assyria.

The idea of love is a very, very important concept in the Scriptures. Tonight we study the 2nd greatest commandment by God to love one another just as He has loved us.

The reference to "Habakkuk the prophet" marks a transition. The argumentative tone of the previous chapters, in which he cried for divine interference, is transformed into a plea for God's mercy, a review of God's power, and a chorus of praise for God's sustaining grace and sufficiency. But while the tone changes, a strong, thematic connection remains. Having been informed of God's plan of judgement, Habakkuk returns to the matter of Judah's judgement, pleading for mercy.

We are blessed by welcoming missionary David Flinck this evening, a minister with GMSA (Gospel Mission of South America), sharing with us how God is providing for the newly planted church in Chile.

Tonight we study events that were going on in the life of King Jehoshaphat. He is one of the kings in the OT who struggled with his obedience to the Lord. And yet, we see how the Lord is faithful to Jehoshaphat. This should give us Christians encouragement that despite our many failures He is forgiving and always remains faithful to His people.

In this mornings service missionary Jack Mitchell shares how God encourages His children during challenging times. We always need encouragement from God and the place we need to look for that encouragement is God's Word.

This morning we are blessed by welcoming missionaries Jack and Jennifer Mitchell. Through their ministry we obtain a glimpse of what the Mitchel's have encountered in the last several years of mission work around the world with a fervent desire to reach the lost.
