This passage shows us three ways to respond to Jesus. We look at each:

The great gift that Jesus is given by Mary

The selfish thief in Jesus' presence 

The divided world

Many people witnessed Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead. Some believed.

But others went to the authorities and told them about what Jesus had done. Why? What was their reason?

Were they new believers, excited about their new-found faith? Or was there another motive?

John 11:28-44

When Jesus' friend Lazarus was sick, he delayed in going to him, and Lazarus died. The sisters, Mary and Martha, didn't understand; their sorrow and suffering was real. But Jesus had a fuller, richer, and better plan than to just heal their brother; he would raise Lazarus from the dead.

What does this tell us about our own suffering?

Why is there suffering? Why didn't Jesus heal his friend Lazarus right away? Why did he let him die?

What does it mean to truly lay our cares at the feet of Jesus?
