"During the height of the pandemic, I traveled back to Kansas from New York City. Seeing characters I can identify with on the big screen has impacted me." Brydie O’Connor is a Kansas-bred, New York based filmmaker. Jewell and Brydie talked about the opposite experiences they had growing up in Kansas, the generation gap and viewing film from a different angle based upon one's own personal experience and viewpoints on life and society. Brydie’s directorial debut, “Going Steady” is a narrative short film is currently on the festival circuit and is part of the short film selection for Female Filmmakers Festival Berlin opening night. The film is about a young woman's wild imagination about the relationship she truly desires in 1950s Kansas. Brydie and Jewell talk about both growing up in Kansas and Jewell’s interpretation of the film based upon her experience versus what the filmmaker said the film was actually about.
