𝐒𝐤𝐲 𝐌𝐜𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐧 is the founder and CEO of Basecamp Resorts (@basecampresorts), the fastest growing hospitality brand in Western Canada🇨🇦. After finding success with Airbnb in 2017, Sky secured enough investments to build her first boutique hotel property in Canmore, Alberta🏞️. Her portfolio has since grown to 10 modern boutique hotels, with 8 additional properties in development. Sky’s journey to entrepreneurship was quick (and mostly self taught), and she has fantastic advice to share on how to navigate becoming a Female Founder without mentorship.
Join us this week on Female Founder Friday to hear Sky’s amazing journey that took her from being fired, to running an incredibly successful hotel chain. Sky unpacks the many lessons she’s learned along the way, including recognizing how much presence you need to have as a leader, and accommodating your team learning and growing in different ways.

Canmore-based hospitality brand Basecamp Resorts announced its commitment to donate $100k (over three years) to The Alberta Cancer Foundation’s Mobile Breast Cancer Screening Units’ enhancement project. The gift will support updates to the mammography equipment and improvements to the mobile health coaches for two Mobile Breast Cancer Screening Units operated by Screen Test, so the service can continue providing a profound impact for people across the province.
Screen Test provides Albertans with a high quality, cost effective screening program designed to interrupt the disease of breast cancer at the earliest possible stage, increases awareness of the benefits of early detection in reducing mortality from breast cancer, and increases the knowledge and skills of Albertans and of health professionals that will promote healthy attitudes and practices towards breast health. Funding from the Alberta Cancer Foundation has been critical to the success of this program - which began in 1991 - allowing more Albertans to undergo breast cancer screening in their own communities. The program currently serves 120 Rural communities, 28 of which are Indigenous communities across Alberta.
