Publisher's Summary:
Meet Tony Hill's most twisted adversary - a killer with a shopping list of victims, driven by the most perverted of desires. The murder and mutilation of teenager Jennifer Maidment is horrific enough on its own. But it's not long before Tony realises it's just the start of a brutal and ruthless campaign that's targeting an apparently unconnected group of young people. Tony battles to find the answers that will give him personal and professional satisfaction in his most testing investigation yet.
Critic Reviews:
"So gripping that it puts your life on hold." (The Times)
"Everything a great detective novel should be: pacy, gripping, clever and stylish and, most of all, a fantastic read." (Sunday Express)

Very poor writing - lots of bad language
I found the actual story OK, but realised that my interest was waning when I started to look to see how much more of the story I still had to listen to - only to see I was less than a third of the way through.
I usually love Saul Reichlin's narrations, but in this story he sounded very stilted and very slow - as if talking to a three year old, articulating his words very purposefully.
I was unimpressed by the CONSTANT reminders that various characters were lesbian - how this added to the tale I do not know - frankly I don't care about anyone's sexual preferences - I cannot think it makes any difference to the way that they carry out their work. I just find it unnecessarily intrusive!
This book reminded me why I stopped reading books by Val McDermid
A little predictable but good overall
I did get that annoying feeling I knew the answers quicker than the detective team on this one but overall a good, compelling story.
disappointed
sadly the narrator just didn't manage to engage me sufficiently. I think it is very idiosyncratic...Bill Nighy could read the telephone directory and I'd find it fascinating!
I have to listen to the rest of the series now!
thoroughly enjoyed it, great characters, different from any others. It left me wanting to listen the next one which is exactly what I am going to do!
What an author!!!!!!!
I love Val Mc D. She is a wonderful writer of wonderful stories and I'll follow her to the ends of the earth. From beginning to end she keeps us held and we know her characters as if they live next door. Stunningly good, thanks Val.
