  • "Novena for Work - Day 1"

Are you, or someone you know looking for a new job?

Today begins our novena praying for work through the intercession of St. Josemaria Escriva.

To follow along on this novena each day, please subscribe to my channel.

A novena is prayer repeated for nine consecutive days, asking for God’s provision for a specific situation.

I prayed this novena several times over the past 10 years when I was looking for work. Although I can’t promise you that you will receive a job offer by the end of the novena, I can promise you that you will receive tremendous graces and peace in the process.

St. Josemaria Escriva (January 9, 1902 – June 26, 1975) was a Spanish priest who founded Opus Dei (The Work of God), a Personal Prelature of the Catholic Church, focused on promoting holiness in the midst of ordinary life.

I first learned about him when I lived in Spain my senior year of college. I had moved there to teach English and met several people involved with Opus Dei and became enamored by his writings.

He is a saint of our modern times and there are numerous videos of him on YouTube speaking to crowds all over the world. He is warm, funny, practical and a joy to listen to about becoming a saint through our work.

The prayers for the novena were written by the St. Josemaria Institute.

  • “How to Avoid Toxic Relationships in the New Year,” An Interview With Dana Nygaard

I pray you had a special Christmas Day! As we approach the new year and begin thinking about New Years resolutions and what we would do differently in 2025, I encourage you to think about investing in your personal healing journey.

This week I’m joined once again by my friend Dana Nygaard, who is the creator of “Be Smart, Date Smart,” a program helping single Catholic women heal their hearts, cultivate secure attachment and be ready for their Mr. Right in 90-days.

Dana is a Licensed Professional Counselor, speaker, and author who is on a mission to help single Catholic women date intentionally, stop settling, and avoid the trap of an unhappy marriage.

It is always a delight to speak with Dana, and I think you’ll enjoy learning about:

    • Common dating red flags

    • How attachment styles impact relationships

    • The power of forgiveness

    • The role of chastity

    • This is definitely one episode you want to bookmark and to share with a friend.

    • "Radiating Joy," An Interview with Stephany Anderson and Maria Benes

Can I tell you about my friend Michelle Duppong?

At age 31 she died of cancer and was one of the most joyful people I have ever met. She was spontaneous, prayerful, and full of life.

I met her when I was a student at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, and she was serving there as a missionary.

I had the honor of being in her bible study and part of her discipleship chain with the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS).

Her life not only impacted mine, but also thousands of people, to the point that in 2022, her local bishop officially opened her cause for canonization.

I recently sat down with two friends to share stories about Michelle’s life and some of the lessons she taught us.

On Tuesday, November 12th, 2024, there will be a one day showing of a documentary about Michelle’s life, called “Radiating Joy: The Michelle Duppong Story”. You can purchase your tickets here!

I highly recommend watching this documentary and listening to this episode if you need some inspiration in your faith journey, or if you’re going through a particularly difficult moment and not sure what to do. I believe Michelle’s witness will be a source of encouragement.

    • “Superhabits: The Universal System for a Successful Life,” An Interview with Dr. Andrew Abela

Do you want to improve your life today? (I promise I’m not about to pitch you snake oil).

Are you tired of trying to make changes in one area of your life and feeling frustrated that you can’t seem to “stick” to those changes? Or do you feel a sense of purposelessness and desire some guiding principles for personal growth?

In addition to spending time with Jesus, I highly recommend this new book by Dr. Andrew Abela, called “Superhabits: The Universal System for a Successful Life.”

Dr. Abela is the founding Dean of the Busch School of Business at the Catholic University of America, in Washington, D.C.. He has written an engaging and well-researched book on how to attain specific virtues/superhabits that will make your life easier, more productive and fruitful.

Through stories of historical and modern figures and events, you will receive insights into these superhabits and practical advice on how to begin implementing them today.

This is a book I know I will keep coming back to and may even gift to others for Christmas :).

I hope you enjoy this episode and implement Dr. Abela’s suggestion to start small. It’s in the steady, daily practice that we can create change.

You can also watch this episode on YouTube. Be sure to share with a friend.
