In asking the Jews in Haggai’s time to consider their ways, God pointed to the scarcity they were facing as a yardstick for evaluating whether they were experiencing the consequence of their wrong actions or inactions. In the same way, God is asking us to use our present experience to evaluate whether we are going through the consequence of abandoning our spiritual growth and development. In this regard, God speaks of a famine in the land and your life, noting that a famine can be in the land and not in your life. If, however, you are experiencing a famine in your life, regardless of whether it is in the land, you need to seek God’s face concerning your situation.

Many claim that they have faith toward God. However, they need to evaluate if their assertion of faith toward God is true. In evaluating whether our faith is toward God or another, in this podcast, we identify from Scripture seven markers against which we can determine the direction, object, and goal of our faith.

What did God mean when He said to the Jews in Haggai’s time to answer their ways? God was telling them to consider their ways based on what they had done contrary to His word in their most recent past when they abandoned the house of God. How does this apply to you? Have you considered your ways vis-a-vis the way you have been living?

We note that the source of scriptural faith is the word of God, spoken or written. God’s word—the Bible—enables us to affirm or refute comments or messages from people. When the content of a book or write-up contradicts the contents of the Bible, we must jettison the contents of the book. When a prophet or preacher says something contrary to the contents of the Bible, even if they claim that an angel spoke to them, we must jettison their message! The Bible is where we get authentic information about God, His Christ, His Spirit, and His doings and dealings! This authentic message from, and about, God brings faith to us, enabling us to put our trust in God!

Many Christians neglect the temple of God, which is their spiritual life. The neglect of our spiritual life is extremely dangerous because we end up being the residence of Satan rather than the residence of God. We also see what we must do if we are not to neglect our spiritual lives.
