The people who knew Him best couldn't see His power because they were too comfortable with who they thought He was. Familiarity isn't neutral, it's the doorway to unbelief. It weakens our convictions, removes our urgency for the gospel, and can shut the door on God's blessings. The same people who were astonished by Jesus' teaching quickly became offended when they reduced Him to just "the carpenter."
