FIL Your Boots

Shed hygiene is a key component to quality milk production, but what are the benefits of being grade free? Mike Robinson, FIL's South Island Key Account Manager - Mid Canterbury talks with Bede Murphy about ways to save time and money when it comes to cleaning and maintaining your milking plant.

With mating on the horizon we speak with Craig Lowry, Head of Sales & Service at GEA Farm Technologies NZ on herd reproductive performance, animal husbandry and heat detection methods.

With so many teat sprays on the market, how do you select the right product for your farm? In this episode, Colin May & Natasha Maguire talk about the key differences between iodine and chlorhexidine teat sprays, and why farmers should consult with their teat spray supplier about emollient and active levels to get the best product for their individual challenge.

Walton farmer Tania Fernyhough joins the podcast, talking to Colin May about how they were able to take a more targeted approach to treating cows and what the results were.

With drying off coming up, we have Natasha Maguire on the podcast again to explain what makes a good dry off procedure, why teat condition is so important, and her thoughts on blanket versus selective dry cow therapy.

She also discusses how dairy farmers can manage low production or carry over cows better next season.

In the first episode of FIL Your Boots, Colin May talks to Microbiologist and Farm Medix Founder Natasha Maguire about mastitis-causing pathogens.

What are the different types of pathogens? Where do they come from? Why should we be focusing on pathogens? Listen as Colin and Natasha discuss how identifying which pathogens you have in your herd can help you see better results in your herd and more milk in the vat.
