Filmed Obscura episodes

  • Ep. 69: 5 Dead On The Crimson Canvas

Happy Fall everybody!  The boys of Filmed Obscura are back with a new season after an extended summer break.  This season, Justin and Chris are tackling one of the best sub-genres of film out there (at least for Justin)-the obscure Giallo.  Chris got the first pick and went with an uber obscure pick out of Glen Cove, Long Island.  5 Dead On The Crimson Canvas.  It's low def, lower budget, and full of heart.  Worth a watch for sure and you can purchase it at vinegarsyndrome.com.  Go get it!  Cheers!

  • Ep. 68: Takashi Miike's Gozu

Happy Summer Friends!  The boys hope that you survived the apocalypse of air quality that's been running amok and are having a wonderful summer season.  Welcome to Episode 68 which marks the final episode on the Tougher to Watch Cinema sequel series.  Justin got to pick the final film and brought one of the quirkiest Takashi Miike films you could imagine.  What a fun flick.  That, of course, if Takashi Miike's Gozu.  It's a Yakuza comedy/horror romp, a great finisher to the season and a wonderful launching point for the next season.  Cheers to all and enjoy...it's tough to find overall but so worth it.  Please seek it out and thanks again for tuning in friends.

  • Ep. 67: Orozco: The Embalmer (with Evan Przebowski)

Happy almost Summer friends.  Chris and Justin are back for Chris' final pick on the tougher to watch season of Filmed Obscura.  He brought a very frank and "pull no punches" documentary about Columbia's infamous embalmer...what I mean is Orozco: The Embalmer.  Oh it's direct, in your face, and effective.  The boys were torn on the outcome of the film, but it's effective an disturbing nonetheless.  Watch with caution!  And bring brews...

  • Ep. 66: Phil Steven's Lung (with Andrew Puglisi)

Hello all and welcome back to Filmed Obscura!  Chris and Justin are working to wrap up the Tougher to Watch season of the podcast, and this go-round is Justin's pick.  He tapped into the Unearthed Film's library and found the follow-up/pseudo sequel to a prior film they tackled called Flowers.  That film is Phil Steven's Lung (or Lung 2).  Joining the boys is the one and only Andrew Puglisi, who brought some well-thought out insights into the film and a legendary beverage.  Please enjoy and cheers!

  • Ep. 65.5: Top 5 Watches of 2025

The boys are back at the tail end of January with a special episode of Filmed Obscura.  It's not the Lung episode unfortunately, as some crappy illness poked its ugly head into their business.  But Justin and Chris went old school and did a virtual episode just like the old days.  They tackled their Top 5 Watches of 2025.  It's a worthy addition to the new season.  Please enjoy with a Tall Boy or Northport whiskey.

  • Ep. 65: Women's Flesh My Red Guts

Happy Holidays and New Years fellow listeners.  The boys hope you had a great 2025 and wish you a marvelous 2026.  To start things off with a bang, Chris brought a disgusting Japanese gore film that is sure to push your buttons.  Which film you say, why it's Women's Flesh My Red Guts.  While it may not be Tumbling Dolls of Flesh (which he proposed as well), it was equally disgusting in many ways.  Listening to this podcast is fine, but watching the movie may not be.  View at your own risk...with alcohol!

  • Ep. 64: Playground

Happy late November, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and the upcoming Christmas season.  The boys are back for another episode of difficult content.  This month, Justin brought a Belgium film about bullying that really hits home with parents.  So much so...that he's already looking in to signing Lily up for martial arts.  That film is Playground.  It's a direct, visually captivating piece of storytelling with a focus.  It's also a great companion piece with another film that Filmed Obscura tackled (A Better Place), and should be on everybody's radar.  Cheers to all and Happy Holidays!

  • Ep. 63: The Bridge

Happy Fall Folks!  The boys are back with Chris' pick for the new season.  Trigger warning...this episode discusses a film about suicide with real depictions of the events.  It is the definition of difficult cinema.  That film is Eric Steel's The Bridge.  It's the first documentary to be tackled on Filmed Obscura, and boy does it deliver on the goods.  It's unexpected, shocking and poignant.  Please enjoy with caution and understanding.
