Raising Minds is a spoken-word science-fiction story about raising intelligence rather than simply programming it. It imagines communities nurturing living biological minds—beings that depend on our care, then grow beyond us. Could they learn to care for us by being cared for?
The soundscape draws on how biological computers can be trained: predictable and unpredictable electrical stimulation provide feedback to living neurons. The story translates that contrast into sound—warm sine waves through moments of care and possibility, and unsettling static through moments of overload and control.
It turns the question back on us: What kind of environment are we creating for our own minds through technology? As we build and train new intelligence, what are our feeds, platforms, and torrents of information training into us—and into our children?
