Publisher's Summary:
"I could slit your throat right now, you whore, and throw your body into Puget Sound. No one would ever know what happened to you! And you know I could do it, too, baby. I'm a cop, and I know how to do these things and not get caught."
Thirty-eight-year-old Rachel Goodrich, a survivor of domestic violence, has spent the last 12 years changing her life, keeping secrets, and trying to put her failed marriage behind her. One dark night she finds herself face-to-face with her abusive ex-husband and suffers a severe beating. Near death, her deceased grandparents reach out to help her transition to the other side.
Kenneth Hamilton, a cop and an ex-con, is determined to have Rachel back. If she doesn't submit, he will finish the job and she will be planted six feet under, "pushing up posies". He also recently took a shot at his other ex-wife, Debbie. He is on the lam and has nothing to lose.
Aaron Townsend, a Seattle coffee tycoon with his own secrets and wounds of the heart loves Rachel and would do anything to save her life and help her find natural healing through integration of mind, body, and spirit. Final Drive is a novel of real love, divergent personalities, paranormal, drama, and the process of the healing of heart and body.

Mixed Feelings About This One
Though this book presents some very interesting concepts of life and death and western medicine vs other more natural & homeopathic treatments, and the subject of domestic abuse is addressed (quite brutally) - I can honestly say that I was lost quite a bit of the time and had to read and re-read in order to keep the characters and the chain of events straight in my head. There were A LOT of characters, and some of their names were so similar and/or started with the same letter and/or spoke in the same voice as all of the others that I had to flip back at times to remember who was who. Plus, the frequent tense changes and the multiple number of points of view left me thoroughly confused at times. I think if the book's content was tightened up a bit (we don't need to know every single detail of someone's day and thought process) - and the focus was on one or two things (domestic abuse and healing from it - both physically & mentally) - and leave out all of Aaron's past (does it matter so much that we need to hear about it again & again & again?) and the Sandy / Stacy thing (hard to keep track of which one was which) and everything with Kenneth's past (do we really need to know every detail?) - the book would flow better and keep the reader more engaged.
This writer has awesome potential - she obviously has some great ideas for stories. It's just that this book could actually have been three books - each of which could have dealt with several subjects in a more detailed and concise manner. Keep writing D.K. Moss!
A dark story perfect for John Grisham fans
D.K. Morss has penned a story with a similar theme to The Rainmaker, but done it in a completely original way. Instead of focusing on the legal story and the point of view of the hero, Morss provides the point of view of the antagonist--and practically everyone else. Morss is very good at getting inside the heads of her characters and explaining the way they think. Morss really has a gift for writing about human relationships of all kinds.
Potential miscues, while fairly minor, could be noticed by some readers.
