  • Episode #83 The Healthy Hustle with Rachel Feldman

    Today on Financial Fluency, I am pleased to have Rachel Feldman on the show.  Rachel is works with lifestyle business coaches both online and brick and mortar in order to help them grow the business of their dreams, from the ground up, using free tools, and with little money.

    In her prior life, Rachel was in Commercial Real Estate, a profession she loved.  When she began to have personal health issues, and realized that the health industry focuses on the one-cure-fits-all attitude, Rachel knew that one day she would be helping people in the health and lifestyle fields.

    Things took a turn for her when her family lost everything due to the crash in the stock market,  and she had a decision to make.  Go back to Commercial Real Estate, or find her passion and create something new.  Without any experience, she started building her health coach business with a website and videos, and because she was afraid to speak in public, YouTube.  Little did she know, she was building her online presence, and people were finding her via her online videos.

    She goes on to explain how to create your niche, by sharing your message, what problem are your solving, and how to express it in a way that others can relate to it, by sharing your story.

    About a year ago, Rachel made the switch from being a health coach, to being a business launch coach.

    For a successful sales funnel, here is Rachel’s list of must haves:

    • Having 5-15 entry points, such as challenges, opt-in freebie, an audio, checklists,  giveaways, raffles etc. to diversify your message and delivery to appeal to as many people as possible.
  • Nurturing according to the nature of the entry point.
  • Focussing on your client customer experience.
  •

    Rachel Shares Her Message Here:

    “You can build a leakfree sales funnel from your business, we can all be doers, but you do have to believe in what you are doing because people buy a journey, people buy you, and they buy your service.”

    Today on Financial Fluency I am pleased to have Heather DeSantis on the show. Heather does Public Relations for small and mid-size companies, in particular entrepreneurs that would like to be internationally known for their cause and mission.

    Heather is currently working on a variety of different PR projects including several big media tours for clients.  As well, in honor of Random Acts of Kindness Week, she has created a media campaign contest to drive awareness for a group called In between Girls, which raises awareness for Tween Girls and will allow its founder to share her message nationally and locally in a big way during a period of two weeks.

    She also is attending two of the largest media conferences in order to meet some people in the media to best serve her clients.

    Having a great passion for working with people who have a great purpose, Heather is growing a Facebook group called Publicity with Purpose.  This group will be posting free media leads.  Members of the group can comment on the lead links that they feel might be a good fit for them, and Heather and her team will give them free publicity.

    Her start in PR began when she worked at an advertising agency for three years.  There she was involved in media promotions for food brands, NFL networks and Yahoo sports.   She left in June 2015 with full intentions of becoming an entrepreneur.  She began her business in earnest in April 2016.  While there has been great ease in her first year in terms of referrals and growth, there have also been challenges specifically in learning what works for her, controlling her spending, not doing what everyone else is doing just because and so on.

    Her model focuses on discovering her client’s key message, who is their ideal consumer, buyer and follower, and find out the most direct way to serve that person.  With the online market being oversaturated, Heather brings her clients together with people who really resonate with their message and need them in person.  She also gets her clients’ calendars booked with interviews, and writes their content as well.

    Heather offers a number of packages that are tailored to where her clients are starting from and where they want to go.  You can reach out to Heather via her website at  www.desantispr.com on Twitter at @HeatherDeSantis, on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/DeSantisPR and on IG: prgirlboss.

  • Episode #80 Successful Event Planning with Carolien Mertens

    Today on Financial Fluency I am excited to have Carolien Mertens on the show.  Carolien is a live event planner based in Brussels who has has an extensive background in conference planning and has an ever expanding network of contacts around the world.  She plans everything from large group events, right down to smaller retreats with groups of 10-12 participants.

    Carolien also hosts an Introduction to the Online World event  for local entrepreneurs so she has been on both sides of event planning.

    When planning an event for someone, Carolien offers a variety of services, according to the needs of her client. Her fees are based on either a per person flat rate for the management of the event, with a per person fee added on for additional services.

    When starting to plan an event, Carolien interviews her client, going over everything from the vision they have, who the participants are, what the agenda is, and the desired outcome.  Location, and budget are major components of the planning, as well as timelines and suppliers needed to bring everything together.

    Carolien shares how entrepreneurs often have great outcomes when they host low cost events, and upsell to a more expensive product, such as 1:1 coaching sessions.  If profit from the event itself is the goal, she suggests having regular tickets that cover the cost of the event, as well as premium tickets where the profit is made.

    There are many benefits that come out of hosting live events.  For the participants, and host alike, a deeper connection is obtained from face to face contact.  Live events also provide an amazing venue for learning a new skill, without interruptions.  And for participants, connecting in person with an influencer is a huge honor, and often life-changing.

  • Episode #78 Visibility and Movement with Linda Ugelow

    Today on Financial Fluency I am pleased to have Linda Ugelow on the show.  Linda is a Visibility and Confidence coach with a Master’s degree in Expressive Therapy who helps people clear the visibility blocks that keep them from moving forward.

    Linda shares how when you are able to identify these impacting influences and clear them away, suddenly you have so much more energy and confidence.  This then makes putting  yourself out there a peak experience and you can thrive in the connecting instead of wishing for the moment to end.   Linda herself has been a performer for 35 years as a dancer, and although she is comfortable dancing in front of others, she was not at all comfortable speaking on stage and would avoid it at all costs.   It took a process for her to feel confident enough to introduce herself on stage, and now brings her knowledge to others.

    Our conversation explores how historically women have not been very well prepared to deal with wealth, and it was men who took the financial reins most of the time, even when it was the woman who had the money to begin with - it’s just the way things were done.  With more and more wealth coming into women’s lives through various mediums, be it self-generated,  inherited or as a settlement, women are having to learn how to manage having wealth and the visibility that it inevitably brings about. Fear of losing the money, guilt of having more than others, fear of being judged, or not fitting in with their peers is a reality for many women who have wealth.

    Prior to starting her online business, Linda she was an organic farmer, growing specialty vegetables for local restaurants which fit her introverted personality.  Inspired by business coaches like Marie Forleo, she began applying all of the concepts of niche marketing to obtain raving fans to her own business.  She soon came to the realization that she herself wanted to help others grow, and that was what she was meant to do.

    Today accessibility to online business tools is easier than ever, and it is allowing for more women to start up businesses with little capital investment.  When she started her business about 1 ½ years ago, Linda was bootstrapping it, and she was very proud of that.  She felt as though walking the walk was more credible in her quest to help others create their future with little monetary investment.   When her mother passed, she inherited some money, and found herself in a position to be able to to invest in her business.  This created a struggle within herself as she felt that she was somehow cheating, and had to do a lot of money block clearing.

    We also discuss the impact an inheritance has on our children, and how having the conversations beforehand can really make a difference in their success.  Also, avoiding having strings or conditions for obtaining the inheritance can establish a healthier attitude towards money in general in our children, and empower them to make the best possible decisions for themselves.

    Linda shares her message here:

    Many entrepreneurs and business women feel uncomfortable speaking publicly on camera or live on stage. This impacts the opportunities that they have available to them to get in front of their audience to get known and to share their knowledge. The fear itself is what is so uncomfortable and it feels impenetrable. However, It's really more like layers of veils comprised of impacting past experiences, limiting self and cultural beliefs, your own thinking process.

    My process and suggestions are to:

    1) Release these past impacting memories, beliefs and practices;

    2) Restore your sense of safety being seen and heard;

    3) Expand your capacity to hold more feelings of confidence, relaxation, gratitude;

    4) Rehearse for refined communication;

    5) Relay your message with your new radiant presence.

    Getting on camera or stage doesn't have to be dreaded. It can, in fact, be a peak experience and one that you look forward to expand your sense of being.

    You can connect with Linda on her website at www.lindaugelow.com, on Instagram at  https://www.instagram.com/lindaugelow/ and on her Facebook page at  https://www.facebook.com/lindaugelowbiz/

    Quotes:

    The guilt with inheriting money does seem to fall heavier on women from my observations. ~Jen Turrell

    I feel that in terms of passing on a nest egg to our children is more about us helping them identify what they feel a life worth living is about, and identify ways that they feel compelled to make a difference in the world.         ~ Linda Ugelow

  • Episode #77 The Accidental Author with Danielle Watson

    Today on Financial Fluency I am pleased to have, for the second time, Danielle Watson, the creator of The Purse Process and the Pocket Muse, and author of the new book, Dear Self, I Love You! Keep Going!: 365 Inspiring Notes from My Bittersweet Year of Heartbreak and Healing.

    Danielle Watson has had a lifelong dream to be an author.  In 2016 she did just that, however, the circumstances upon which she wrote her first book were nothing that she could have imagined. It was in fact, almost accidental...

    Flash back to 2015, a mere 48 hours prior to her departure to give a Ted Talk, Danielle received divorce papers taped to her front door.  She decided to put her big girl panties on and kept going.  She found a way to get the support she needed to get through that very important event in her life.

    A few weeks later, reality had set in, and she wondered how she was going to get through this difficult time.  She did what she could to stay positive, and take care of herself.  One day, on her soon-to-be ex-husband’s 40th birthday, she saw her reflection in the mirror, and realized she was still living her life, and still had a sparkle in her eyes.  Her pride in herself led her to post about her feeling in Facebook, like a sticky note to self, and people started to respond to it in a big way, calling her an inspiration.

    As a form of self-care, she decided to write a post every day for a year.  In January 2016, while revisiting one of her post from a year prior, she finally realized that her series of posts could become something more.   And so was the birth of her first book, Dear Self, I Love You! Keep Going!: 365 Inspiring Notes from My Bittersweet Year of Heartbreak and Healing.

    Danielle shared that she has plans to create a tear away calendar, fridge magnets from the most special notes and eventually a hardcover version of her book in the near future.  In addition, she plans to write a memoir of the stories behind the notes that led to the writing of this book.

    Danielle has closed down the Purse Process and the Pocket News, and now has a daily Facebook Live Show called The Danielle Daily, which airs every weekday at 3 p.m. EST.  With the goal of helping people to think of themselves in a more positive way, attendees will find something positive, inspiring and powerful.

    Danielle shares her message here:

    Speak more kindly to yourself, love yourself, embrace life, and no matter what, keep going!

    In moments when life feels the hardest, there’s an easy decision to make: continue to criticize ourselves for our failings, or open ourselves to the possibility that, yeah, we’ve made (and will continue to make) mistakes, but we just might be lovable anyway.

    You can connect with Danielle on her website at www.Danielle-Watson.com, on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/TheDanielleDaily, on Instagram at  www.Instagram.com/The_Danielle Daily and view her YouTube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSsN9vKehyogmU2ZJrBtlNg.

    Her Book, Dear Self, I Love You! Keep Going!: 365 Inspiring Notes from My Bittersweet Year of Heartbreak and Healing, is available HERE.

    Quotes:

    “I think it is a pretty amazing feat to almost accidentally write a whole book”  - Jen Turrell

    “We’re the only person who is going to be with us throughout our life” - Danielle Watson

    “Sometimes we just have to be able to soothe ourselves”  - Jen Turrell

    “There is a lot we can do by taking actions to affect positive outcome”  - Jen Turrell

    Danielle Watson is a TEDx Speaker, Author, and host of the LIVE Danielle Daily Show where she provides her positive, inspiring, and powerful Notes to Self to people seeking freedom from self-critical thoughts. Her book, Dear Self, I Love You! Keep Going!: 365 Inspiring Notes from My Bittersweet Year of Heartbreak and Healing serves as a reminder to her global fan base that even when life feels painful or hard, you are stronger, braver, and more powerful than you think, and no matter what you have done or will do you are worthy of your own love.

  • Episode #76 Money Movement with Luci McMonagle

    Today on Financial Fluency I am pleased to have Luci McMonagle with me.  Luci is an Abundance Breakthrough Coach and Speaker for women, the Founder of Learn about Money and the host of the Wealthy Wednesday Podcast Show.

    Luci first started her business in 2010 to fulfill a need for women to learn the basics of money management, like financial literacy, how to balance a checkbook etc.  Soon after beginning to work with clients, she discovered that they had money mindset stories that were holding them back from achieving their true potential.  This also brought awareness to her own money stories, having grown up in an impoverished family.  This ignited a desire in her to empower women and teach them the financial mindset tools they needed so they would not have to struggle the way she and her mother did.  Ultimately, she wanted to create a money movement globally.

    Luci shares how 99% of the time, money mindset issues are what hold people back.  These issues often stem from their childhood beliefs imparted by their parents such as “Money is the root of all evil” or  “I can’t afford that”.  She talks about how money stories manifest themselves in women in many different ways, such as procrastination, hesitation, doing “busy” work, basically avoiding the things that bring clients through the door. She further indicates that sometimes these manifestations are unconscious, like literally holding back on their delivery due to not-enoughism and perfectionism.

    In her quest to create a Money Movement for women, Luci provides 1:1 coaching, and will be introducing some new group programs this year, as well as women’s retreats for small groups.

    You can connect with Luci on her website at www.lucimcmonagle.com, as well as on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.   Her podcast is available on iTunes HERE.  And download her free Wealthy Planner at  http://bit.ly/wealthplanner.

    Quotes:

    Re Money stories and money mindset:  “Even if you break through those financial barriers, it will find a way to bring you back down to your financial set point.” - Luci

    “Money is a tool that allows your life to be more comfortable, but it is not the end all be all and it doesn’t dictate what your personal value is as a human.” - Luci

    Luci McMonagle grew up in a poverty stricken life filled with tragedy and she finally took a stand to reclaim her own personal power. Despite all odds Luci has risen to become a top influencer as an Abundance Breakthrough Coach and Speaker by bridging her blend of spirituality with practicality. Women entrepreneurs hire Luci to empower them to step into their authentic power and to be victorious over adverse life circumstances to a life and business that is fueled with personal empowerment. Bottom line is women gain more Money, More Freedom and More Joy in their lives.
