In this episode, I interview MIKE HENEBERY Investment Expert and Entrepreneur
-Acquired over 50 companies in private transactions.
-Key member of Gresham PE team - led the spin-out from Zurich Financial Services and raised £600m from c.20 LPs (largely insurance companies and pension funds) between 2003 and 2006.
-Led 15 separate deals between 2000 and 2007 investing £200m and returning over £450m to investors. -Has previously founded/co-founded two start-ups:
-Was the founder and promoter of Palio Capital 2010-2013, raising c.£100m for a new Private Credit fund (London and Guernsey) that narrowly missed an IPO in 2012 and subsequently became a Europe division’s largest credit hedge fund. –
A co-founder and c.20% shareholder of Fabify.com, a platform for apparel brands to ethically exit fashion overstock to cost-conscious consumers.
Forecast revenues are c.£30m in 2021, and an IPO is planned for 2022/23.
Fabify acquires new consumers for less than €10; every consumer repeat purchases 7x in the first 12 months, so >80% of forecast revenues are repeat purchases.
Most of the operations (warehousing and order fulfillment are outsourced). All social media performance advertising is designed, planned, and executed in-house.
The Fabify scale-up has given Mike a deep experience and understanding of how social media performance advertising works.
Authored a book about his career as an investor and entrepreneur, publishing in Q2 2021: Wrestling with Unicorns
📖 Founded Titan Partners in 2020 a B2B consultancy that serves SME owner-managers to boost revenue growth through 5 pillars:
1 Innovation
2 Re-imagining their Business Model to harness disruption
3 Investment in Digitalisation
4 Better Exit Planning
5 More efficient social media marketing.

Based on my survey, most small business owners and entrepreneurs don't know the difference between margin and mark-up! Freighting!
It is even scarier that most small business owners and founders don't even know what financial information to use to improve their business performance.
Finance and business are intricately and intimately connected, yet many try to divorce them and even outsource their financial insights - it is no wonder most businesses fail!
Mistakenly, many see financial information and reports as boring and something to ignore, until they get hit with an unexpected tax bill. At this time, they start hassling their accountant to get it reduced, especially when there is no money in the bank.
Episode 14 addresses the importance of understanding the key numbers and metrics in your business to have a highly profitable and resilient company.
I explain some of the key metrics to monitor as well as strategies to increase your bottom line!

PRICE is NOT always an indicator of VALUE!!
Price can be easy as looking at the price tag or asking for a quotation but determining value and value for money is a different story.
I think too many business owners focus on the price when, in fact, PROFIT is a reward for value creation.
Moreover, by having a good Value Proposition, you will attract the right customers and be a position to charge premium prices.
Episode 14 of my Podcast is on Price vs Value. See link in the comments below to listen.
Having the right value proposition and an efficient value chain is necessary to establish and grow a highly profitable and sustainable business. I cover this in detail in my Maximum Profit Generator System.
Send me a message or email if you are looking for ways to add more value to your business and its customers (and other stakeholders) in order to increase your profits.

Having multiple bank accounts is crucial to managing money properly in any business.
However, most small business owners do not manage their money properly.
Many even use their personal account for business - this for me is a NO-NO!
In my first role in financial services in 2001, I was responsible for managing over 30 bank accounts for a smallish insurance Company, and as complex as this sounds it made cash management easier.
So what are these bank accounts ?
Well, if you are small business owner (with t/o up to £50 million) based on the PROFIT FIRST SYSTEM you need five bank accounts, even if you are a one-person business:
1️⃣ Revenue (100% inflow)
2️⃣ OPEX
3️⃣ Profit
4️⃣ Renumeration
5️⃣ TAX
You allocate from the revenue account to the other accounts based on predetermined percentages.
Send me a message or email me at [email protected] if you need support in enhancing your money management systems and processes.

How are you coping and managing your money and investments in this crisis?
While most people are struggling in this crisis, some are doing extremely well and others seeing it is an opportunity to invest and grow their business and wealth.
Look, the last year has been, and undoubtedly continues to be, unsettling financial and economic times!
Lots of businesses are failing and many are just about able to survive these tough times, meanwhile others are seeing it is an opportunity to grow their wealth. I recently read an article which states that the world’s billionaires “did extremely well” during the pandemic, growing their already-huge fortunes to record heights!
Personally, I think the way people manage money and investments in times of uncertainty boils down to availability of cash, spending habits and risk appetite.
Fundamentally, I believe our emotions influence how we interact with money, whether it is controlling, spending, saving, or investing. It is all about how each of these money activities makes us feel.
Below are a few tips for managing your money in times of uncertainty:
1. Connect with your money mindset, stay positive
2. Meditate, think clearly, and make better decisions
3. Take advise if you need it - speak to a financial adviser
4. Manage your emergency fund – keep cash on hand
5. Review your budget - know where cuts can be made
6. Steady your investments – diversify and hedge risks
7. Get ready for the future – look for opportunities
