Hey friends, this is Timothy Kimo, Brian, head instigator for "Create Art Podcast" and your guide to the podverse for "Find a Podcast About." I recently attended the Empowered Podcast Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina, and I wanted to share some key takeaways and insights from this enlightening experience with you all.
The Journey to the Empowered Podcast Conference
Attending the Empowered Podcast Conference was an exciting endeavor. I usually attend the Indy Pod Conference in New Jersey and have been to DC PodFest in the past, so this was a new experience for me. Thanks to a 20% discount code shared by Alex Sanfilippo from PodMatch, I decided to make the five and a half hour drive to North Carolina. The drive was pleasant, filled with beautiful weather and a slew of podcasts to keep me company.
First Impressions and Connecting with Fellow Podcasters
Upon arriving at the Hyatt in Charlotte, I checked in and immediately gravitated towards the communal table on the second floor, where conversations about podcasting were already underway. Meeting the conference founder and various podcasters felt like reconnecting with old friends. Being around people who share my passion for podcasting was a rejuvenating experience, despite my family sometimes growing weary of me mentioning the word "podcast" countless times.
Setting Intentions: A Unique Approach
The conference kicked off with a unique session on setting intentions, involving a guided visualization exercise to help us focus on our goals and what we wanted to achieve from the conference. We were provided with journals to jot down our thoughts on what we wanted to embrace and let go of, which was a first for me at any conference. This session helped frame my mind positively for the rest of the event.
Networking and Learning
An exciting part of the conference was the opportunity to meet Alex Sanfilippo from PodMatch, who gave an insightful talk. One of the highlights for me was how the entire event was woven around the theme of intention and authenticity, especially relevant as my goal is to foster community growth within the podcasting sphere.
Defining Intention
To define what intention means, intention is a plan or goal aimed at achieving a specific purpose. For me, intention signifies clarity and purpose, especially in the context of my podcasts. My key takeaway was the need to be clear about our intentions and how we can be of service to our audience and guests.
Refocusing and Building Community
During the conference, I reflected on my purpose for both "Create Art Podcast" and "Find a Podcast About." My goal with "Create Art Podcast" is to demystify the artistic process and encourage people to engage with art meaningfully. For "Find a Podcast About," my aim is to help listeners find high-quality podcasts efficiently.
Practicing What I Preach
Consistency, genuineness, practicing what I preach, and building community are now my key focuses. This means not only creating art and listening to more podcasts but also connecting with my guests and maintaining those relationships. I want to build a network where people feel connected and supported.
Personal and Professional Growth
On a personal level, I aim to continue improving myself physically, mentally, spiritually, and artistically. Professionally, my dream is to create a podcast network for the federal government, ensuring that accurate information is directly accessible to the public. To achieve this, I plan to join relevant professional organizations and continue learning and networking.
Conclusion
In closing, this conference reinforced the idea that podcasting is not just about broadcasting but also about building genuine connections and communities. I am dedicated to serving my audience and guests better by being consistent and authentic, and by fostering a supportive network. Thank you for joining me on this journey, and I look forward to continuing to grow with you.
Feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] for "Create Art Podcast" or [email protected] for "Find a Podcast About." Let's connect, share our struggles, and support each other in our artistic and podcasting endeavors. Until next time, remember to create more than you consume and keep discovering binge-worthy podcasts.

I started my podcast journey back in 2006, yeah a long time ago and that makes me one of the OG podcasters, however, I didn’t get serious about it until 2016 when I moved to Fredericksburg Virginia, and started going to a meetup held by Kyle Bondo who runs a few podcasts and a media host company called Once Told. While attending that meetup I wanted to get better at podcasting and make new friends as I am originally from the Chicagoland area. Kyle recommended a few podcasts about podcasting and one that caught my attention was The Audacity to Podcast. I loved the name and listened to a few episodes and was hooked.

Creative Chats with Mike Brennan is a guilty pleasure of mine. I found it while doing some market research for my other podcast Create Art Podcast. I wanted to see what other people in the space were doing and to see how I could take lessons from them and put my spin on what I felt about art. While doing that research I found this podcast and well as they say the rest is history I have been a follower ever since, in fact I have signed up for the weekly newsletter that Mike runs and I just bought the book he put out Making Fun A Habit which I will put in the show notes for you to order for yourself, I know it is going to help out my creativity.

Love and Radio has been a favorite of mine for a number of years. I have been following this podcast since 2017 and have reviewed the back catalog and find each episode to be highly entertaining and voyueristic. Maybe that's why I like it so much or maybe its just great art. Enjoy this review and watch it on my YouTube channel for all things Find A Podcast About.

So, for this episode, I know where I found this podcast, I was listening to Dave Jackson’s Podcast Rodeo, which we have reviewed here, and Dave was reviewing Clear and Vivid with Alan Alda. Dave was not that impressed by the show, but as soon as I heard that Alan Alda was the host, I became hooked. I am in Generation X and I grew up on MASH and I have the whole collection of episodes that was given to me one holiday a few years ago. The buy-in was easy for me because I had been lightly following Alan Alda for some time. Now I would like to give you the gift of listening to the show.

First episode 23 May 2018
Description: Learn to connect better with others in every area of your life. Immerse yourself in spirited conversations with people who know how hard it is, and yet how good it feels, to really connect with other people – whether it’s one person, an audience or a whole country. You'll know many of the people in these conversations – they are luminaries in our culture. Some you may not know. But what links them all is their powerful ability to relate and communicate. It's something we need now more than ever.
