The decision to follow God is the most important decision of a person's life. When a person follows God, there are always things that must be left behind. Life is shaped by a series of critical moments and the decisions we make during those moments. Our response during those critical moments sets the stage for all of life. They don’t come every day—but they come in every life. Those critical moments don’t happen due to some appointment you make on the calendar of your life. Those moments are appointments made for us by God. Any decision you make about the future of your relationship with God will shape the rest of your life.

Have you ever had anyone to threaten you? Have you ever had anyone to come up to you and whisper: “I know where you live.” That is what Jesus said here. He told them he knew where they lived. He said. I have something against you. He also threatened to come and fight against them with the sword of His mouth. Imagine that! Christ at war with His church.

Why would Christ want to fight against a church? Because some segment of that church had positioned themselves as His enemy. Is it possible that any of you have taken up such a position in relation to your Lord. This church had compromised with their culture. And the Bible says in James 4:4 that the person who chooses to be a friend of the world has positioned himself as an enemy of God.

What happens when an ordinary place becomes the place of God's Presence?

The book of Revelation is a book about suffering. It is a handbook on how to handle the burden that crushes. It is an assurance that no suffering or sorrow stands in your future or mine that is a mystery to the Lord Jesus. Some of you are suffering now, and Jesus knows. Some of you have suffering in your future and Jesus knows. Suffering is just as inevitable for you as it was for these believers. You may not suffer for your faith—but you will suffer. It may involve sickness, or tragedy, or some severe trial. Suffering is an inevitable part of life. Suffering of some sort is in your future. You won’t go around the waters of suffering. You have to go through.You are not exempt from the rivers of sorrow. You have to go through. You will not escape the fires of trial. You have to go through. But our Lord does promise: When you pass through… I will be with you.

What does Jesus know about you and your church? Since He walks in the midst of your congregation, He knows far more than you realize. What is He ready to do with you and your church?
