In the final conclusion of the How To Have A Quiet Time series Russ, David, Parker and Kelly discuss The Story Of The Lost Son. How one son sought control, while the other just conformed. Resulting in both sons missing out on the honest relationship they both could have with their father.
...“While the son was still a long way off, his father saw him. He was filled with tender love for his son. He ran to him. He threw his arms around him and kissed him. [21] “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer fit to be called your son.’ [22] “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. [23] Bring the fattest calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. [24] This son of mine was dead. And now he is alive again. He was lost. And now he is found.’...God desires honesty from us, not hiding the motives, but revealing our secret heart. Often, we desire reward or recognition for our performance. There is stress that comes from being religious and putting on a performance, resulting in us feeling like a slave to the rules. Or, we seek to control so we can feel empowered to do whatever we want, uninhibited. What are we trying to control? How do we try to control the truth? God is driven out of your life by the suppression of truth. So don't fight the truth, embrace it, be emboldened by it. Work to believe that God wants us to find happiness in a relationship with Him. Reflect on your relationship with God: Which son am I? The younger (control) or the older (performance)?
