On episode 55 of Finding Hope, I’m so excited to have a bit of a full circle moment. My very first episode was with a woman called Merryl Mackenzie – who shared of her many years experience working on Mercy Ships – providing life-saving surgeries to those in need in Africa. Today, I interviewed Jess Mepstead who has served as a dietician on Mercy Ships, and is now studying to become a doctor – with the hope of one day returning to the ship as a surgeon. Megan Owen is a force of nature. In 2011, Megan escaped an ultra-religious, abusive marriage – with four small children in tow, enduring poverty and, heartbreakingly, endured harassment from her own family and church community. In 2012, she developed a non-profit to serve single mothers, like herself, who were leaving abuse without support. In 2021, Megan started her own counselling practice Mountain City Christian Counselling as a pastoral trauma counsellor. Megan lives in Denver, Colorado with her four children.
