“What you’ve done becomes the judge of what you’re going to do – especially in other people’s minds. When you’re traveling, you are what you are right there and then. People don’t have your past to hold against you. No yesterdays on the road.” –William Least Heat Moon
“Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life.” –Jack Kerouac
It’s been a rough week. For those of you stumbling upon this post sometime in the distant future, we recorded this most recent episode on a very dark Friday. The country’s been in a fair amount of turmoil and grief, and we know that the events in Boston and Texas have definitely thrown some new baggage toward many of our listeners.
Our hearts go out to everyone who was affected by the tragedies that occurred. Just know that if you ever need to reach out, we’re here to listen to your stories and offer a shoulder to cry on, a hug, and a promise to stand behind you as your pillar of strength.
We are so very fortunate to have had the inimitable Jen Taher join us for this episode of the Finding Our Hunger podcast. Her candor, her humor, and her brilliance are not only incredibly entertaining, but truly insightful. This week, we discuss some pretty heavy baggage, current events, aging parents, Facebook envy, violent video games, and the muscle memory of the eyes.
We’ll leave you with Jen’s quote from Tennessee Williams’ Orpheus Descending:
“Take me out to Cypress Hill in my car. And we’ll hear the dead people talk. They do talk there. They chatter like birds on Cypress Hill, but all they say is one word and that one word is “live,” they say “Live, live, live, live, live.'” It’s all they’ve learned, it’s the only advice they can give.–Just live….Simple!–a very simple instruction.”
