If there were ever a community in the Finger Lakes region that exemplifies long-term planning and follow-through it's the village of Newark.

Recently, intent was announced by Indus to explore a hotel in the village. It's not the first- or second- such development. It's the third in less than two years, and Newark Mayor Jonathan Taylor calls it a "great problem to have."

See, not that long ago the village didn't have a functioning hotel. That put the bustling community on the brink of winning the $10 million DRI prize in a difficult position. In many ways, DRI investment means leaning more into economic development and tourism. The community, which has fast access to the Erie Canal and plenty of travel through the village's two main corridors State Routes 31 and 88, needed lodging.

"There's a need," Taylor explained. "They've done their market research; and it might seem like a lot of development quickly. But it's going to benefit the entire region, especially Wayne County and our surrounding towns. We've needed more hotel options in Wayne County for a long time. There's no a lot of options, but once these are built we'll have more."

This weekend we caught up with Mayor Taylor to talk about the prospect of three hotel developments in the village, as well as a number of development and infrastructure projects that are all on the horizon.

What's it like running one of the most-identifiable hotels in the Finger Lakes region? How's preparation going for the upcoming busy season?
