In the same way that I greatly enjoyed hosting the EIB, the EIF, a deputy, and a finance minister, I am delighted this week to understand the role played by the World Bank in the digitalisation and modernisation of financial systems in emerging countries. Together with Andrea, we explore the example of instant payments and examine the role played by the World Bank in this implementation, particularly through the practical case of their deployment in the Western Balkans. This sheds light on this historic institution based in Washington, DC—a great way to understand the nature of their collaborations with both public and private sectors.

By partnering with policymakers and the private sector, it develops a new playbook to drive impactful and resilient development. I had been contemplating this discussion for four years already. I do not regret waiting. I am absolutely delighted to have had a chat with Steffen, who provides us with a wealth of insights into the democratisation of private equity. What is pleasing about this entrepreneur is his profoundly deep knowledge of the industry and his vision. He explains how he executed his plan with his team, from the very first investment of EUR 10 million in an EQT fund to the platform we now know with its myriad of strategies, secondary management, as well as the white label offerings aimed at institutions that want to diversify their private equity offerings for their private clients.
