Welcome back to another episode of The Recruitment Round-Up with Toby and Nadia, where today we discuss confidence in the market place.
We're all aware of the economic headlines, but what's the vibe out there? Is it as tough as it says it is? Are people still hiring? Yes, absolutely. In fact, we've seen a five month high in terms of job flow at the moment. So it's a great time to be a job seeker or an employer!
But how do you build your business and get ahead of your competition? Well, if you take Toby and Nadia's advice: take the challenges on. The pair's message to you is that good businesses are confident at the moment, and good businesses are pushing further forward. We know there is an appetite to continue building, growing and surging further forward—you may not be waiting for things to come to you—so if you practise then there is a hell of an opportunity out there right now!
We also hear Toby and Nadia's learns for the week, and congratulations to this week's Starr's, Georgia Richardson and Nadia Edwards-Dashti! And a special shout-out to Lydia Sear for a great podcast.
Thank you for tuning into another episode of The Recruitment Round-Up.

Paul O'Brien, Founder and CEO of Glimpse Markets, joins Toby on this revealing episode of FinTech Focus TV.
Paul helps us to explore recent shortcomings of the buy-side marketplace, and the proactive work Glimpse Markets is doing to address this. Despite only launching recently, the work done so far has been transformative and so Paul shares what it takes to truly maximise early success.
The pair also delve into the industries current approach to data. Current asymmetries in how the market handles data aren't sustainable and so Paul introduces us to a new mindset and approach to the future that will optimise our ability to harness the power of data.
And Paul's refreshing, empathetic approach to business is the thought we are left with at the close of this episode. We are reminded of the power of the personable touch and not simply allowing ourselves to be preoccupied with the ease of digitalisation.

Welcome back to this week's Recruitment Round-Up. Toby is back from his holiday and excited to join Nadia to talk about the recent week in the FinTech world.
Taking time away from your business to then return with a fresh perspective can be hugely beneficial for your strategy. Whilst on holiday, Toby took time to engage with new perspectives, reading a plethora of books that have broadened his understanding of high performance, organisation, and excellence.
"Relentless" is a term that crops up a lot and is often seen as negative, but Toby argues that "relentless is also about the pursuit of perfection, of being great. I think within that, that’s got to be fuelled; you can’t be “relentless” at anything unless you’re passionate about what you’re doing."
The pair discuss how passion drives high performance as Nadia elaborates on conversations she has with hiring managers who struggle to retain talent. She encourages interviewers to reflect on if they're looking to catch someone out or to bring out the best of them in an interview. There is a key difference that can totally transform the dynamic of the conversation.
Finally, the two are thrilled to share exciting news about upcoming partnerships, including with FinTech Merge, FinTech Connect and more.
We've also started planning for our next edition of the Financial Technologist which is all about our annual Top 1% Workplace Awards. We're opening our applications this week, so be sure to reach out to us and apply/nominate firms who you think deserve some recognition!

Welcome back to another episode of FinTech Focus TV. Today, Toby is thrilled to welcome Duncan Trenholme, Co-Head of Digital Assets at TP ICAP, to the show.
In this episode, Duncan shares his personal journey into the digital assets space since his initial graduate programme at TP ICAP in 2008. After a successful 8-9 years in equities, Duncan fell into a "rabbit hole of crypto and bitcoin" through personal interest– an interest that would ultimately transform his place within the traditional finance (TradFi) industry.
Duncan has been at the forefront of the revolution and it has been fascinating to hear his thoughts about the future of the sector. Toby invites Duncan to share what the 'Era of Convergence' means to him; the pair continue to discuss how both TradFi and DeFi (decentralised finance) have influenced one another to catalyse technological innovation.
Duncan is a true visionary, this is an episode not to be missed.

On this episode of The Recruitment Round-Up, Nadia and Rob address the increasing uncertainty affecting not only our industry, but that which is having a global impact.
With a recession now on the horizon, many people are jumping to panic stations and trying to predict the sometimes unpredictable. But Nadia and Rob unpack exactly what a recession means for financial services, reflecting on previous experiences and grounding our understanding of whats to come.
Given this, the pair remind us how important it is to not be derailed and continue to practice excellence, not allowing yourself to be swayed and pursue quick wins. This echoes the ethos of Harrington Starr and Nadia and Rob reveal the practices and mindsets that will see the team through the latter part of this year.
And we are reminded to be optimistic. To continue to recognise the wins, but not allowing ourselves to become too overwhelmed by the challenges. On this, we celebrate our Starr's of the Week: Hari Sopal and Carl Charlston (with special shoutouts to Charlie Todd, Con Lam and Brad Alstrom)!

Welcome back to another episode of FinTech Focus TV. Today, Toby is joined by George Toursoulopoulos, CEO of Synetec.
Synetec are a tech and data consultancy working mostly with buy-side asset managers in the UK, Europe and now the US. In this episode, George shares his learns from his extensive career and the challenges that Synetec are tackling to help their customers.
Some argue that the buy-side space has been underserved in terms of technological innovation, but recently, that’s all changing. Challenges like the 2008 market crash and the COVID-19 pandemic have lead firms to embrace tech and data in a far greater way.
George elaborates on how businesses in the buy-side space have moved from a habit of outsourcing with costly, bespoke systems to the adoption of saas offerings. The industries impression of the public cloud has certainly evolved and this has encouraged an investment of innovation. With that comes more frequent changes, allowing firms to quickly adapt and own their data.
George is coining this data transformation trend “Data independence” and believes companies should be empowered to take ownership of their unique stories through their unique data.
