A Good Friday message from Hebrews 2. Pastor Robert Rohlin traces the necessity of the cross through three movements - the suffering that secured salvation, the humiliation and substitution of Christ, and His exaltation. Christ was not concerned with angels but with the descendants of Abraham, and so He took on flesh to taste death for every man. Set against the Passover lamb in Exodus and the veil torn from top to bottom, the message closes where the hymn does: the cross demands a response.

Part one of Your Faith on Trial. Pastor Robert Rohlin opens Numbers 13-14, where twelve men scout the land God had already promised and ten come back convinced the giants are bigger than God. Borrowing Dave Ramsey's line - when you do stupid, you reap desperate - the message anatomizes little faith: a limited perspective that makes obstacles look decisive, murmuring and inaction, a longing for the good old days of slavery, and a retreat into mediocrity. It closes on Mark 11:22 and the better reading of that verse - have the faith of God, not merely faith in God.

Pastor Robert Rohlin preaches on prayer from 1 Timothy 2:1-3, where Paul says the first thing a church ought to do is pray, and names four kinds of praying: supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks. The picture that holds the message together is the collapse of Champlain Towers South in Surfside, Florida, in 2021. Small cracks in the concrete let in salt water, the salt rusted the rebar, rusting steel swells and opens the cracks wider, and after forty years of looking perfectly sound the building came down in the night and killed ninety-eight people. Rohlin uses it for the small compromises that get let into a life and into a nation, the ones nobody bothers to repair while everything still looks fine from the outside. His answer is James 4:2, that we have not because we ask not, and the call is to plug the leaks by praying before the damage ever reaches the foundation.

Part one of a study on perfect peace from Isaiah 26:3-4. Judah was in real danger from Assyria when Isaiah wrote this song, and the promise still stood: God keeps in perfect peace the person whose mind is stayed on Him. Pastor Robert Rohlin sets the song in its own history and in its future, because it is also the song the redeemed will sing when the Messiah reigns. He works through the reversal Isaiah promises, where the proud fortified city becomes a ruin and the humble are given a strong city with salvation for its walls.
